I thought the cage full of cats made into a room was the shrine. Looking around, I found the room you were referring to. It's intact.

Oh well. Now with Lorrie dead I have no dwarf to control :( poor poor Lorrie  :'(

I have this sense of impending misfortune that tells me that the string(or more fittingly, stream) of disasters will not end before my turn comes around. I'll see what I can do to stall this endless misery.

Yeah, sorry bout the death of your dwarf. o-o

At least it's keeping the fort interesting.

I really don't know what I'm going to do for Plotline when my turn rolls around again. xD

Am I forever banned from this succession or can I attempt to utterly break (but not kill) the fortress?

It's probably made from baby bone, with a handle of baby leather. Probably uses the leg bones wound together for the handle, the pelvis for the handle/pick joint, and the pick is the spine.

But that's all in theory, of course. Not like I've made a pick out of my own 5 month old baby before.

Why would you be banned? O_o

Your turn mixed things up a bit. Made it exciting. :P

Well, the hard drive my copy of 31.12 is on is old and fucking around.
Not my fault if something weird happens.
It HAS rained magma for me before. RAINED. Not waterfall, but the actual RAIN was replaced with magma.
And kobolds.

How many z-levels is the rain falling? And can a Kobold raindrop kill a dwarf if he comes down with enough speed? I insist you stay in this Succession, for Science

So how many dwarves do we have by now? Oh, and I find it funny that Exilo has survived prettymuch everything, even being nearly the sole-survivor of the entire fortress by now.

One more thing. Am I permitted to use anti-skill-degredation 'cheats'? I get annoyed when my dwarves end up as obese, braindead, creatively sterile lumps of flesh with atrophied limbs by year ten, and thats about when I'm getting the save.

It isn't anything but a small RAW insert that prevents skills from degrading at 'I forgot how to eat since yesterday!' speeds.

That sounds undwarflike to me.  :-\

The Fatal Ice could and should be allowed to be abandoned due to "every dwarf simultaneously forgot to eat"

Besides, reclaims are fun. If the obese, atrophied Hutt dwarves bother you, simply allow nature (snow blobs) to take their course.

I am one of those nightmarishly evil, sick, sadistic bastard players who actually care about my dwarves and attempt to shepard them all to their own betterment.

Well, as i discovered, this "rain" falls 0 z-levels, and instead spawns on the surface. Also the "Kobold" rain is made of a material CALLED "Kobold" and is unuseable.

this keeps bugging me, so I'll ask for advice.

I know that my dwarf, Lorrie, who was supposed to have represented me in The Fatal Ice, has perished. She was only a small child, poor little thing, but that only emphasizes the fact that she is only a corpse now and is listed with that bright 'deceased' tag. I also noticed the 'ghost' story being used to justify a dead dwarf participating in directing the fortress. It has worked, yes, but repeating the same gimmick over is not interesting. Especially if it was impromptu the first time.

But I haven't yet come up with an explanation for how in the world a dead child gets to lead the fort. So...

Any ideas? :D

Just pick use any dwarf available when your turn come around. Or maybe try telling the story from the POV of a goblin invader or a forgotten beast.

If nobody has tried playing as a forgotten beast, I'd like to try it on my next turn.

Jerang, don't skills not recover the same way as they degrade, if I remember right?

Meto30: Yeah, just pick an entirely new dwarf. I know it's a pain not being able to play the one you originally wanted, but at least it keeps things interesting.

Smariot: Hehe. Playing as a Forgotten beast? I don't think I want to hear the inner thoughts of a tentacle-y beast as it stalks female dwarves.

And, on an unrelated note, I'm attempting to try to build my forts with more extravagance and flair, seeing as my forts always start out the same. So, watching this game has given me a lot of ideas.
