I've been reading the advances in this fort for quite some time now. But as of right now the future of The Fatal Ice looks so grim and bleak... which is all the incentive I need to jump right in.

Can you guys add me to the turn list? I'd like a hand at rebuilding this fortress; of course, if it is already revived by the time the ticker reaches me I'll just put my own touches here and there :D

Since the current population is nearly decimated I don't think dwarfing me is possible, but if an empty dwarf becomes available I'd like a dwarf named 'Laurie' ('Lorrie' if female) as my avatar. But as this is my first participation in a succession game, I don't exactly know how dwarfing works out...

Also, is it OK if I use Mayday's graphic verion? It's not a problem if I have to use vanilla graphics, but DFG would help me greatly.
smariot: Not bad! You've got some kickass storytelling skills, I can see this already.

Too bad Glenneth died. =/ He had a really epic amount of musicality.

meto30: Of course you can join! :3

I personally use DFG as well, so go ahead and use it. I could never understand ASCII that well, I know enough to play the game, but its always better if I have a visual of what I'm seeing. xP
Once you're done changing the raws, remember to go to creature_standard.txt and remove [MULTIPLE_LITTER_RARE] from the female dwarf caste. We need SUPER BABY PRODUCTION

It's probably made from baby bone, with a handle of baby leather. Probably uses the leg bones wound together for the handle, the pelvis for the handle/pick joint, and the pick is the spine.

But that's all in theory, of course. Not like I've made a pick out of my own 5 month old baby before.

By late spring, little about the current situation had changed. The survivors had managed to clean up much of the bloody mess around the fortress, but progress was slow. The carving out of coffins was slow meticulous work, and the pile of corpses seemed to be endless.

Still, nobody had perished since that tragic incident, and moods were beginning to improve. Hope was returning to The Fatal Ice.

Exilo however was becoming slightly paranoid, claiming she could hear a faint croaking echoing through the cave walls. Satori had, in her unprofessional medical opinion, concluded this to be little more than a symptom of an overly stressed mind.

But Satori is a fool. While none of the dwarves know it, a bi-tailed crocodile has taken up residence in the caverns. It has a lemony colored layer of thin fur covering its body, bearing a resemblance not unlike that of mold. Despite their ignorance of the dangers lurking below their feet, the survivors shall remain safe for the immediate future.

An elven caravan arrived, and it was obvious they were second-guessing that particular decision as they unloaded their goods.

In exchange for the tattered cloths of the fallen, a small supply of food and a wooden splint and crutch were bartered for in hopes that Shem would recover.

Sadly, I am becoming very doubtful that she will in fact recover. Satori has been neglecting her nursing duties, and Shem has been oozing blood alone in her room with virtually no dwarven contact at all. Save the flies, nobody has come to visit her in her time of need.

Satori has also become quite plump. It should be quite obvious to anyone that she is eating more than her fair share of the remaining fortress rations, and yet nobody says anything. Seeing her fills me with rage, and if it were within my power to do so, I would strike her dead.

Now, Besmar on the other hand; that is a dwarf I can admire. While the others have been slacking during this crisis, she has been doing all the hard work. Carving out the coffins, digging a well for the water to keep Shem alive, resetting the cage traps, and returning the dead to their final resting place. She is really the last sliver of light in this desolate wasteland.

Before leaving, the elves made their usual demands regarding the preservation of the local glacial forests. Given that the wood was neither needed, nor the trouble of rejecting the elves an affordable course of action, an agreement was made. They gave us their blessings, for what little an elf's blessing is worth, and were on their way.

As early summer approached, yet another forgotten denizen of the caverns made a home for themselves; this time a one-eyed falcon cyclopes with red burning feathers, a phoenix of sorts, no doubt here to burn the world as we know it to ash.

Satori caught a glimpse of it from the stairwell, and the shock of it sent her into labour. Yes, labour. As it turns out, Satori was with child -- a child conceived by my the two dwarves I hate most, and therefore the inheritor of all the rage and hatred I have for them.

Unfortunately for me and my sense of vengeance, the stairwell was sealed off, and Satori and her spawn still live.

By mid summer, the human caravan arrived, and either by incompetence or malice, they brought with them several goblin ambush parties. Besmar was resetting a cage trap at the time, and in her startled stupor managed to imprison herself in her own trap.

Fortunately for Besmar, the humans came to her rescue and defended the fortress from these foul hygiene impaired intruders, and while it took some time from Satori's busy schedule of drinking and organizing parties, she was eventually released.

In early autumn a third beast joined the ranks of its fellow monsters in the caverns, this one someone unique in that it was a formless blob of snow, no doubt right at home in the frozen wasteland we were trying to create a new start in. As usual, it and the survivors are safely isolated from each other.

Besmar tried her best to carve out a hospital, and pump water to a well, but it's clear she won't finish before the time spring arrives.

The dwarven caravan never arrived, I expect because members of the old caravan are still present and being held hostage in the fortress cage stockpile. It seemed reasonable to assume they were caged for a reason, and to err on the side of caution, lest they repay our good deeds with blood.

I have given up hope of communicating with Shem. It is clear that nobody cares for her, and without a voice, I am completely impotent. It took me a long time, but I have finally become resigned to my fate, and am preparing to move on to whatever awaits me.

May my destiny be fulfilled in a future life, and good luck to whoever has the courage to lead the survivors of The Fatal Ice out of discord to glory and riches.

OOC: Yes, I got practically nothing of value done this year. Sorry about that. The next person to play needs to do something about the growing collection of caged goblins in the stockpile.

lolghurt: I reduced your cat shrine to little more than a cage full of animals, I wanted to stop your character from partying around it. Sorries.

Save is here.

If you don't mind someone with only a month's worth of Dorf Fortress experience, sign me up for a turn.

As for my dwarf, I dunno. Give me a peasant dwarf, if one shows up. I... don't really have a preference. Any random dwarf will do.

Just name it Argembarger, if you will.

My turn will likely lead to loads of fun.

First things first, there are things worse that can happen to a Dwarf than dying in frozen wastelands... for examle being possessed by an evil Spirit

1st Granite: Grendal claims another dwarfs soul, a dwarf with nearly no Skills at all is the Victim

17th Granite: Who the hell build the graveyard right next to the refuse stock pile... hell its dwarfs who are resting there not some elves, putting an improvement for that on my to-do list

23th Granite even with no skill i set up a jewelers workshop, to attract new migrants we need to export much

17th Slate I ordered the building of more cages, would be a shame if we go down because our cage traps are not loaded

16th Felsite
Some Elf traders arrived, happy for the opportunity to export some goods I lowered the bridge, in the meantime the Elves slaughtered a Goblinthief and in return detected 3 Goblin Ambushes, the Elves where slaughtered and only by sacrificing our Swordsdwarf Sarvesh I was able to pull up the Bridge in time.

Note: A Human Crossbowman without Ammunition is patroling the top of our ice wall, no clue how he got there but he was with the ambushers, i will let him stay there for now and hope that he will starve

21st Hematite Another fogotten beast, a huge blob of water with poisonous vapors is visiting our nice Caverns, because of the fact that it has poisonous vapors I think it is boiling

27th Hematite No migrants this season... realy bad

17th Malachite
That human on our wall is going to be our doom, he is interrupting everyone on the surface, Grendal just grabbed a bow and some ammo to take care of it, apparently he failed, because that weak dwarf he took possession of can't handle the awsomeness of being possessed

14th Galena A human caravan arrived, hopefully they have crossbowmen with them so they can shoot down this basterd on our walls

15th Galena Forget about the humans... three more ambushes, and there is no way those humans stay victorious... time to pull my favorite lever again/Bridge thingy)

17th Galena No one seems to feel responsible to pull the lever and our dwarfen Child Lorri went out to play with the goblins... i thin I heared laughter followed by the painfull screams of Lorri

5th Limestone finally someone pulled the lever, the goblins of course made it in the fortress but where trapped in the last unused cagetraps
Human Crossbowman still patroulling the wall and no way to get him down

7th Limestone Just realised that there is a macedorf in one of our cages, seems he is friendly i am going to release him

9th Sandstone Finally freed that mace dwarf, is not one of us but as long as she is friendly

4th Timber Figured there are only female dwarfes left alive so there is the reason for the lack of a babysplosion

10th Timber A one eyed Lobster who claims to be a forgotten beast is visiting our caverns

19th Timber A dwarfen carawan, and they brought a Marksdwafs, please let him kill that crossbowguy on our wall

24th Timber the marksdwarf ran out of ammo before killing the crossbowman, nonetheless both his legs are completely broken beginning from the knees downward

7th Moonstone
Finally the human is dead, distracted by the caravan I found the opportunity to put down one of the ice walls near the bridge, after that the caravan guard stormed the wall and killen the foul human

9th Opal A Forgotten beast showed up in hell Clowntopia, i wonder how long it is going to survive against the demons clowns

14th Obsidian next ambush, but bridge is already retracted

Apart of the dead Human I didn't do much more than my Predecessor.
The Fortress is down to 6 Dwarfs but still alive, more than I thought with all those Ambushes

Man, the caverns are going to be jam packed with forgotten beasts before we get our numbers up high enough to deal with it.

smariot and Drachenmaul. Wonderful updates. :3 The Fatal Ice is turning out to be... quite Fatal.

At least the fort is moving at considerable speed, compared to other forts.

Sure Argembarger. Welcome aboard. Though, I think we're lacking dwarfs to be... dwarfed.

And yeah, what are we at now? 5 or 6 FBs? Unlucky, we are.

Fatal is definitely fitting, I also realised that the first flying forgotten beast could be kind of a problem because that small part in the caverns with the farms is open on the upper side

I built a floor over the stairs to the cavern farms, since the falcon and (snow blob somehow) can fly. Actually, lolghurt had started it, but the associated jobs were suspended. Gee, can't imagine why that was.

I believe the only currently accessible farm is on the surface. Who wants strawberries?

Oh yes! I've got a kid! posthumously! Dibs  :D

Name him Vulcanus if male, Philophrosyne if female in keeping with the theme. Could you put me back on the turn list if possible? The kid will probably have grown up by then and that way I can continue my original plans of covering the world in metal (cats) 8)

As it stands, the turn list will cycle over when the last player takes their turn. :P

So, we're all on the list still, we just have to wait.

Once the final player takes their turn, we'll have to start back with me, and go through again.

Should I put a limit on the number of players allowed to join?

So the blood-line of Hephaestus ends here  :-\

Lol at the fact we've become a female-only fort.
A band of women, living in a secluded hamlet, surrounded by ice walls on a haunted glacier with six mutated monstrosities lurking in the caverns below.

How? Analog carved three instances of the word "cat" into one of the levels, and I added another three.
If you're talking about the statue, It was there because everyone was tantruming on that level.
So the blood-line of Hephaestus ends here  :-\
I'll check legends to see if that is indeed the case.
I wonder if [MULTIPLE_LITTER_COMMON] or [MULTIPLE_LITTER_ALWAYS] exists
