The Fatal Ice - Succession - 31.12 (3 slots left! O:)
« on: September 24, 2010, 04:43:00 am »

That's right. Kamudo's second Succession game. This time, with a more serious tone, I hope.

A band of Dwarves, who have lost everything, set out from the mountainhome, The Responsible Arch. They took little supplies, heading to the ass end of the world. If nobody wanted them, they'd go where no one would look. They escaped to the Blizzard of Ruthlessness and agreed upon the name, "The Fatal Ice". Hoping that Dwarves, and other beings, would simply leave them alone. They don't want to adorn the history books as the greatest fortress ever, just to simply be remembered, as that place in the snow and ice, where those who are forgotten, may be given a second chance.

The Fatal Ice

A succession Fort

The Embark site: 3x3, four Haunted Glacier tiles. Two tiles are savage forest, and one river tile.

The Pale Pages of The Fatal Ice (The Crew):
1 Miner (Taken by da_nang)
1 Miner (Taken by lolghurt)
1 Woodcutter/Carpenter (Taken by Drachenmaul)
1 Mason/Engraver (Taken by Kamudo)
1 Weaponsmith/Associated Skills (Taken by analog)
1 Grower/Brewer (smariot)
1 Leader (Taken by jerank)

How these Dwarves are shaped, depend solely upon the players.

The Rules:
Normal Succession game time frame. Granite 1 - Granite 1. One full year.
Be spontaneous! Nobody likes a bland fort. Add a bunch of needless things.  Put a waterfall in the kitchens, who knows?!
Try to write a little narrative and story with your posts and updates? Makes things more epic. :D

The Players:

When you sign up, ask for a dwarf and a name. (You cannot just ask for a dwarf to be dwarfed. You must actually want to be a part of the game. IE; Taking a year as well)

1 - Kamudo:  Glenneth - Rock_On
2 - analog: Hephaestus
3 - lolghurt: Satori
4 - smariot: Sacch
5 - Drachenmaul: Grendel
6 - da_nang: Argoth
7 - jerank: Exilo
8 - USEC_OFFICER
9 - Moonlit_Knight
10 - meto30 - Laurie (Lorrie)
11 - Argembarger - Argembarger
12 - Fishsicle - Fish
13 -
14 -
Any questions and comments are appreciated.

My turn will start right away, and I'll pass it off to whomever feels like grabbing the second slot.

Another succession fort, another time for analog to shine!
Weaponsmith please! Name him Hephaestus!

Nope. No mods. Vanilla.

I am using Mayday's graphics, if that counts as a mod. O-o

Sure analog. Welcome aboard. I'll add that to the first post before I sleep. :D

It's almost 3:30 AM though, soo I'mma have to call it a night and do my little story post in the morning.

The fortress design is a little strange, but eh. It'll be interesting.

So yeah. Story post in the morning, and passing it along to analog sometime tomorrow. (Hopefully.)

It's probably made from baby bone, with a handle of baby leather. Probably uses the leg bones wound together for the handle, the pelvis for the handle/pick joint, and the pick is the spine.

But that's all in theory, of course. Not like I've made a pick out of my own 5 month old baby before.

Mind if I join? Can I be a miner named Argoth? It's my first try taking a stab at a succession game.

This fort sounds a lot like one I made recently, wouldn't mind playing.

I'd take the leader. Name: Exilo.

My turn will probably take less then 24 hours, my play sessions for DF generally last most of the day, any day.

This is my first succession, I should add. Expect my updates to involve lots of angst and noble-hating.

Alright. You're all able to join. :3

Except, I noticed that I misplaced my character as the woodcutter in the list above in my sleepiness last night, whereas I've already got him down as the Mason ingame.

Mind picking another dwarf, Drachenmaul? (The only two not taken are the woodcutter, and the second miner. x-x)

Edit:
lolghurt, all of the remaining dwarves are female. There's only 3 male dwarves, and they're already taken. =/ Sooo yeah. Miner or woodcutter? You and Drachen will have to figure it out, or it's first come first serve or something.

Yeah, you'll have year 8. >.>

You'll have to wait for migrants or something if you wanna have a dwarf in the fort.

I still have to figure out the little issue with the two remaining dwarves, but I'll post a little story post in a sec.

Alright, thank you.

That puts lolghurt as the last miner, and we're good.

I'll start on story posts, and try to avoid giving the other dwarves too much personality, incase you wanna have them a certain way. xP

The slow playing of a violin slowly wafts through the mountainhome, being played by no other than Glenneth, the Mason. Despite being told several times to stop playing the music, and get back to work. There was no reason for him to care, he was leaving later that day with the expedition into nowhere. His woman left him, his cat unadopted him, and he was left with nothing, but masonry. Packing his things, he walked out of the front gate and hopped onto the wagon with the other six dwarves, heading off for the unknown.

Spring - 1051

"Aye, do ya know where we be going?" The blistering cold wind blew around us, the fog and snow so thick we could barely see where we were going.

"Stop the wagon here." Exilo ordered, and the wagon stopped dead in it's tracks. The seven of us jumped out and looked around, not sure what to think. "Now then, let's strike the earth." The two miners, Argoth and Rinnosuke walked off, and I going with them to scout a nice place to set up. We looked around, all of the snow looking the same. After searching for a bit, I swept the deep snow away, looking down through the solid ice. Seeing trees on both sides, I figured this must be the end of a river.

"Aye, mates. Dig here, yeah?" I sat back and watched them get to work, playing my violin slowly while they dug. The wind picked up something fierce and blew the violin out of my hands, sweeping it away to god knows where. The river had been dug and I immediately set up walls of ice, incase the river would immediately thaw. While it's not likely, considering I'm using ice walls, still, it's a little bit of extra protection. We immediately started working our way underground, to escape the blistering cold. We started moving the supplies from the wagon, wanting to get everything inside as soon as possible.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It didn't look like much from the outside, but I'm hoping it'll at least stop us from freezing to death on the inside. The miners continued to dig, and I started smoothing up some of the walls and floors, trying to get basic things, like the still and the bedrooms taken care of first.

Spring, has overall been very cold, and yet very productive. Can't believe it's been almost three months since I left that place. At least the work, has kept my mind away from the mountainhomes.
