two weeks
« on: September 23, 2010, 10:49:42 am »

The year 12 term just finished and I have slightly less than two weeks of boredom (got a few things to do) ahead of me and I plan on having DF see me through the rest.

So here's what I would like, large megaprojects, things that take in game years etc. Essentially I want a series of tough mega projects to do.
Thus I turn to you. i have 53 dwarfs and a steady food/steel industry in a relatively safe fort.
List some of the best projects you have seen before or made.

One thing before any ideas are thrown around, no binary computers or other things like them. I respect the people who can make them but I do detest the result ever so much.

Since Minas Tirith's being done, try Osgiliath, or Isengard.

Floating cast obsidian island. Bonus if you dig its exact contours out of the ground beneath it.

Dig out the earth in an accurate model of a dragon's internal organs.  Bonus points for a head sticking out of the earth with magma that flows from its mouth.

Build replicas of real-world things.  For example... Empire State Building.

There's always Operation: Invert the Earth

dig out each layer and rebuild it above the surface, using blocks.  You won't be able to do all of it, unless you spend a long time buying rocks from caravans, but try to faithfully rebuild veins and everything.  You may have to use pumpstacks to get your brooks flowing in the appropriate place

Biosphere. A clear glass dome that encompasses almost the entire map, giving total sustainability. If needed, allow traders/migrants in through an airlock system, which is also connected to a giant deathtrap, in case of invaders. This is a pacifist fort.

collapse an entire 3x3 embark into the magma sea (after building a safe room for 'the lever' so that you can have one survivor (the one who pulled the lever) to observe the aftermath.  You need to make sure to mine out every level between the surface and the sea, then channel the perimeter of the map (placing supports on each level and where needed around the caverns to prevent any pre-mature accidents).  After its all mined out and supported link your lever to a key support which will allow the whole thing to collapse.  After pulling the lever you are probably going to want to go watch a movie or go out drinking or something, because it might take a while to calculate everything 8)

Build a legendary dining room in Hell.

For bonus points, make an entire fort in hell.

Also nvm, I'm doing this one myself now.
