Bringing Paint back
« on: September 22, 2010, 07:42:07 pm »

It has come to my attention that not everyone likes MS Paint. Some say it is feeble, useless, and all around not a nice program. They don't matter right now. In this thread, in this forum, we will bring MsPaint back. Not for the glory- for the program. I propose an image suggestion thread- this one. Suggest someone something. It could be me, another user, or someone who doesn't use MSPaint. As long as they have posted in this thread. There's no rules against anything else either, but it was started mainly for Paint. Feel free to use your fancy transparencies- I'm not the one who has to go away from their keyboard feeling unfulfilled.

By the way, Paint is awesome. Vista's my favorite though. Windows 7 is a bit too complex for making quick shoops.

I almost like the XP version better for the way zoom works, because I usually do sprite-like pixel art in it.

Wat
Could I see a Demi Gorgon, and my stuff usually isn't super pixelated, it's sort of like a hash of RM2k3 stuff and RPGmakerXP.

I usually do sprite-ish stuff.

Eh, you can do transparencies in the correct version of paint.

Which version? I can't change the background colors, but I can do faux transparencies.

If you need anything *more* than MSPaint for XP(or maybe even earlier, though who would use anything older than XP?), then you are either editing existing images or trying to use fancy lens flares that really won't improve the image (Rare case: someone might actually have a valid purpose for a more advanced program. Usually, though, they probably don't need it.). Exception: Vector graphics and obscure file formats.

I agree almost completely.
Almost because I use Paint.net for most of my image editing, instead of regular MSPaint.

I used to use Paint for all kinds of stuff, but then I upgraded from XP to Win7. And it's just... shit. Tough to navigate, and while using certain tools, actually broken. Paint.NET is pretty sweet, used that for a long time too, but I had to upgrade to Photoshop when I got a tablet because it didn't support pressure sensitivity.

I'm currently stuck on Linux, so I don't have MS Paint. I drew this in Gnupaint instead, as a proof-of-concept type of thing. That program even lacks an undo key. I hope this is within the scope of this thread.

Then I opened it up in the Gimp and removed some empty white space from the edges and converted it to one-bit color. Is that cheating? MS Paint can do that, right?

Image -> Attributes -> Select black and white rather than colour. Yes, MSPaint can do that, at least on XP.
