Infinite supply of zombie yetis.
« on: September 22, 2010, 03:56:30 pm »

Embarked on a terrifying glacier... and every time a zombie yeti falls, another takes its place off-map.

At least I'll have tons of *yeti bone bolts*

They will give your military plenty of practice. Also undead creatures in caverns are plentiful.

They're just there to keep you on your toes ;) It's their not-so-gentle way of making sure you have a strong defensive line.

Capture yetis with cage traps. Make zombie-yeti pit and throw gobbos in there.

Tantrum spiral killed the fort.

In other news, one of the dwarves began to "stalk and brood", claiming a Butcher's Shop.

Unfortunately, he won't tell me what he needs; he just says "Leave me... I need certain things."

Keep him away form any dwarves you are fond of.

Lock them up somewhere, or quarantine him with some useless peasant.

He will kill them when they aren't looking.

A while ago on a fort I had, same situation except I was tantrum spiraling from my defensive line breaking down (Lesson learned, levers for main defenses should be as far from main defenses as possible). The dwarven liaison was chasing after my mayor, who couldn't give two shits about the liason because he was moving the belongings of dead dwarves around.

My brooding dwarf snuck up behind the liaison while he was following my mayor, killed him, and dragged him back to the butcher shop. Made a bone cage out of him or something like that.

He almost got some little kid that had been hiding down there from some other dwarf that went berserk, but the kid was quick enough to get away.

Oh, they're all snapping, one by one. Miasma's everywhere. Someone broke the atom smasher, else I'd try to get them all into a room and atomsmash all of them at once.

He needs bones, skulls, or sundry other body projects. Just slaughter whatever animal is handy in the future.

I thought that only happened in a Fell Mood; this one is a Macabre. Either way, they're pretty easily avoided with a nice enough Dining Hall.

I embarked on a site once that had an unending stream of skeletal giant eagles.  That site also had a three layer thick aquifer and very little space I could dig into without hitting it.  That was indeed a Fun embark.

You could start a zoo and end up with a natural history museum, I'm sure no one would mind.

hate to break it to you, but that's a fell mood his dwarf is in, not a macabre one.

"Brood and stalk" is a Macabre Mood; a Fell Mood involves a horrible look and a terrible, roaring laughter. Besides, a Fell Dwarf just goes out and finds whoever it is that he wants to make into a backpack; he would only remain in the workshop if there's no other dwarves anywhere and this doesn't seem to be the case. A Macabre Dwarf gets his supplies the same way as a Possessed, Fey, or Secretive Dwarf.

I'm trying to get a self-destruct atom smasher built so I can put the dwarves out of their misery. The ones outside are prey to the zombie yetis because a tantruming dwarf destroyed the entry bridge. Miasma's everywhere, and yet a dwarf or two is still churning away at their original tasks.

Here's all the dead zombie yetis... at least the ones that weren't butchered.
