Buying a Bass Guitar
« on: September 22, 2010, 02:04:10 am »

I'm getting myself a bass guitar soon.
Budget of about 400 USD to cover strings and guitar.
Currently, I'm looking at the ESP LTD EX-104 and AX-104.
I was wondering if anybody had any opinions/recommendations/reviews/etcetera?

Get a Squier, hell I have an offbrand one and the thing still sounds like its an expensive one with a good amp and good strings. You really can't go wrong. I take it you want an ESP for the look because you like metal or something? Heres a tip, if you like metal do yourself a favor and learn guitar. ESPs are not bad, their high end stuff is great, from my experience their low end stuff is well.. you get what you pay for. Squier is owned by Fender, and they are famous for their basses. Get yourself a Squier.

Damnit, after I saw the title of this thread I can't get out of my head the image of this guy who was part of one of Mike Oldfield's acts. Basically, he went into the scenery with a C. Mongler smile on, and started announcing the instruments. "GRAND PIANO!" "BASS GUITAR!" "VOCHAL CHORDS!"

My first proper bass was a Yamaha BB414, which was a damn fine instrument, and I still play it. I have no idea what the strings were, they are still the ones that came with it. These days I play a Fender Jazz with Rotosound Steve Harris flatwounds.
