A Little Story of Killer, A Hard Dwarf.
« on: September 21, 2010, 09:01:22 pm »

Just a little story here. I have a little dwarf called Kadolsterus Fongbezer. Early in my game, he was on guard duty by the front gate when we were ambushed by goblins. I ordered the military outside to back him up, but by the time they arrived, he had dispatched them all. Not the strongest of goblins, but I named him rather unimaginatively, Killer. Over time he becomes our best fighter and soon, the military commander.

Many ambushes later, we finally get a much stronger attack. The dwarf who spotted them happened to have his axe, but no armour. Again the squads are dispatched outside, but first dwarf is quickly slain. The goblins advance and are nearly at the front door when Killer appears. He runs out to meet them but another ambush appears out of nowhere and he is surrounded. Alone, Killer takes a few goblins down, but a lucky strike slices his left hand off. He drops his shield and it looks like he is doomed. He is swiftly overcome by five or six goblins. They knock him to the ground and set on him with maces and flails. The rest of the squad arrives in the nick of time. (For the fort, not Killer). The goblins are slaughtered and I get to take a look at the Killer, who has survived.

He has multiple injuries including 11 different broken bones. His upper and lower torso is cut open, and his whole body is damaged. Every part of his body shows red apart from his feet which have somehow remained untouched. Killer shrugs this off and gets to his feet and makes his way to the hospital.

Once there the head doctor takes a quick look to diagnose him. But before the Doc can clean him, Killer jumps to his feet, and runs out of the hospital, towards his own room. He puts away his weapons, and then grabs some booze. I try to get him to return to hospital by removing him from the squad, but it doesn't work. Even though he has eleven broken bones and many other major wounds, Killer has decided that he is fit for normal work. So now despite all his injuries, he is now working normally. I know that in a few years he shall succumb to infection, but this is the hardest dwarf that I have seen. A missing hand, two broken legs, two broken arms, three broken ribs and a broken hip, does not stop this hardy dwarf from his normal daily activities.  :)

He's the little dwarf that could.  Seriously though, find a way to knock him out and get him fixed up.  He's too cool to rot.

I saw a dwarf be "fixed" from all-red in about three years by doctors that became legendary in the process. Make sure he's getting to see cave-in dust real soon.
