Amazing Bug
« on: September 19, 2010, 11:32:51 pm »

Something cool just happened but I can't seem to reproduce it.

After worldgen (150 years) I went to embark. The listed civilizations had 4 entries of "Forgotten Beasts," 3 of which were hostile to my own Forgotten Beast civ.

I prepared carefully and when I finally embarked I found that all of my dwarfs turned out to be sentient humanoid hummingbirds with poofy green feathers and deadly blood. Having no hands, they couldn't do any work and my game was spammed with "<Foo> cancels <bar>: too injured."

Too bad they didn't have hands or I could have maybe seen a siege of forgotten beast armies!

...Wow. I have never heard of anything even approaching this screwed up awesome.

Sounds similar to the duplicate raws bug, though. Been doing any modding recently? Also, is this .12 or .13? .13 might have more fun bugs than we realized. :P

You've got a duplicate file or a duplicate raw somewhere. Duplicate raws really screw things up.

Duplicate raws in what sense? I had made backups of all my creature raws, and then did a batch find and replace from [PET_EXOTIC] to [PET] in each creature raw.

And were the backup creature raws somewhere where DF might find them (generating huge amounts of duplicate creatures)? In the main game directory, there may be a file named "errorlog.txt" that will tell you these things.

We really need a tag for FB creation mechanics, so we could have RNG-created mutant races. None of them quite the same.

I tried setting the creature for an entity to DEMON_1, but it didn't work and didn't tell me what went wrong.

Did you play around with the raws quite a lot to achieve this ?

Uhh... so why didn't you MOD THE RAWS TO GIVE YOUR AVIAN-DORFS HANDS!?

That would have been an amazing experiment. You could've had an avian dorf civ!

I saw this before. I tried to find the thread but I couldn't. It's still an awesome bug though.

there is an image of the goblin Utes Gozrusrozsnus and dwarves in elf bone. The goblin is making a plaintive gesture. the dwarves are striking a menacing pose.
this image relates to the slaying of Utes Gozrusroz

DF doesn't care what the name of a file is- it just straight up reads everything in the directory. The names are just there to tell us what's in a file.

To clarify in case some readers didn't get it: you cannot mod forgotten beasts. They have no raws.
