problem with saving games
« on: September 19, 2010, 09:23:14 pm »

I hope I am posting this in the right section of this forum but I couldn't find a more suitable section.
Also, using the search function did not provide relevant results.

My Problem:
When loading a game from a seasonal backup (mostly because I want to try tools like quickfort or whatever) and then saving by pressing ESC - save game - Dwarf Fortress appears to be saving the game. So I switch to the explorer and see that the folder "current" in data/saves has been changed - but is empty. All the other folders remain unchanged. So now of course I am unable to load my "pseudo-saved" game.

So my questions here are:
Is this intended behavior?
Is the game being saved somewhere else than the game's data/saves directory?
Is this being caused by loading seasonal backups/autosaves? (sorry, haven't tried avoiding this yet)
Or is this a problem with my system?

Note: I'm using Windows 7 64bit - antivirus disabled

Thank you for your time.

Where is your DF folder located?

Try putting DF in a /user folder, like on your desktop. I think a folder like that should be fine, but just to rule out any Seven/Vista issues.

Alright, loading the game which I loaded before saving the game works just fine, so sorry for wasting your time  :/
Goes to show again how much of a noob I still am :P

What irritated me was that wincrap explorer said only the "current" folder has been modified which is obviously not true.  :-[
