Forced Education & Learning Thread.
« on: September 19, 2010, 06:58:52 pm »

After highschool, I had gotten a job.  Although my bank account grew in size, my education has not.

Thread Rules.

  • First poster chooses a subject, topic, computer program, skill or theory for me, (or anyone else for that matter.) to learn or practice.  The following week is then dedicated to learning that.
  • All other posters after the first may refrence learning sites or show off what they know about that subject.
  • No matter the level of ignorance displayed; ridicule will not be tolerated.
  • After this time next week, a new area of learning may be chosen.

Next poster: Start us off.

In case you don't think you can do that, try learning to program in BASIC.

Nope, the topic has already been selected: Genetic Engineering.

Your point is taken, there's no need to go overboard with it.  If you had said that.  I would of began researching nuclear theory/fusion.

Currently, I'm looking at the Selective Breeding/Natural Selection, which would be the natural, (although slow) form of genetic engineering.

Indeed. It's always great to keep learning, even after you leave school.

Apparently, it's not as hard as you'd think to do simple forms of genetic engineering.  There's a sortof group of them doing it in makeshift home labs.

Stuff they can do includes making bacteria glow green in certain conditions and making it produce other things.

If I recall correctly, a huge controversy over geneticly modified food has nothing to really do with the safety of geneticly modifying it at all.  But the fact that a geneticly modified product can be made sterile and then sold to poorer countries so that they are reliant on the product.

This thread is a great idea. I think I'm going to follow suit, if you don't mind the company :) Though I'm still in university now, I've still got free time every now and then.

You mind if I join? Someone suggest a topic for me for the week. I would also like to expand my mind.

I think the idea is that everyone takes the same topic and learns about it =)

In a similar vein, it might be kind of cool to start a book club.  Hrm.
