0.07 m3 (70 L). That's the volume of a boulder in DF.
How'd you work that out?

I'm just curious where in the game he found definitive measurements. I mean hell, right now a single bar of metal makes a full suit of platemail, a chair, or a necklace and a single boulder can become a floor, a stairway, an impassible wall, or a long bridge/road.

I mean hell

Slade boulders. Density of slade: 200000 kg/m3. Weight: 14000 kg.

You're trying to pull real-world measurements from a unusable fantasy materiel with absurd placeholder values?

Yes I am. I'm assuming all boulders are the same volume.

Test: Native gold

[SOLID_DENSITY:19320]

Listed mass (1 gold nugget): 1352 kg

    1352 kg
------------------ =0.06997929 m3 = 69.97929 L
  19320 kg/m3

YOU CANNOT BEST MY SCIENCE.

Yes, I can.  I best your science with common sense.  Why does a "gold nugget" have almost 17 times the mass of an average human male?

Clearly your units are way off.

Because a "gold nugget" is just a renamed standard ore lump.

And it's a wall's worth of near-pure gold.

Because it's a "nugget" that's two and a half cubic feet of gold and currently worth 43 467.8094 troy oz. * ~$1110/oz = $ 48,249,268.43 USD.

Or, in other words, a big nugget.

EDIT: Updated to reflect current prices. Because big numbers only make a point if they're accurate.

I love how we come across an artifact entirely possible of having infinitely reoccurring pictures of itself on it, and the only thing we can say is "Yeah this happens occasionally."

I've always thought that, even if the craftdwarfship is of the highest quality, the images of itself only go so deep. It's not infinite, it's just seen multiple times.

The thing to keep in mind is this:

The real ChaosHeavens is impossibly large. The entire fortress and all the dwarves that live there are on the surface of ChaosHeavens. It's just so vast that they can look from horizon to horizon, never realizing they're all standing on the surface of a giant mechanism.

The artifact they're calling ChaosHeavens is actually "an image of ChaosHeavens the native aluminum mechanism in native aluminum."

It's mechanisms all the way down.

Better yet, Chaoshavens is actually the entire universe, so the "images" are actually nested parallel universes, each of which creates a perfect copy of its progenitor-and thus ensures a new Chaoshavens will be created, containing the next one, and so on, all the way through the eternity embedded in the mechanism. The image is just the equivalent of a looping animated gif from the start of time till the next chaoshavens is created, at which point it zooms in to the new universe looking exactly like its parent universe and repeats the process.
