Kind of like the theory that we're all in the Matrix, and DF is another layer of simulation. Eventually the dwarves will be able to create a new DF, and the cycle will continue.

Except that this one can be hooked up to a weapon trap and cause a world of hurt. :D

I'm sorry.

... Dwarfs are crazy.

So of all the things you can do in DF, it's the fractal artifacts that make you think dwarves are crazy.

Never mind the magma falls, the atom smashers, the cog-and-axle turing-complete computers, or the colonizing of Hell itself... all those are fine, but man, those recursive artifacts! Where do they get such ideas?

um... first it was fractal artifacts, then it's recursive. Aren't they different?

Our entire universe is actually one artifact adamantine serrated disc. Each instant is recorded on an infinitesimally small slice of the disc, as a single incredibly narrow yet massively complex image. It's the lone inhabitant of a single weapon trap, standing at the forefront of the fortress' defense. In our current cycle, it has been activated by a sieging elf, each instant, from the generation of our world to its ultimate deletion, plays out in detail unimaginable to our mortal minds. And once it completes one revolution, ending in nothingness, it starts again from the beginning, generating our universe once more. A never-ending cycle. Should the disc some day be retired, our universe would cease to turn, and time would halt for eternity. So for the sake of our continued existence on this blue plane, may the goblins be plentiful, and the elves pissed as hell.

IIRC, 'overkill' is not a concept that exists in the dwarven psyche.

Its really impossible to find out... since the units in the game have no relevance to real units of measurement except for temperature. And since almost all the units of measurement are called Urists its pretty hard to differentiate measurements inside of DF's own system as well.

I wish I had an artifact decorated with recursive turtles.

Foolprooof way to penetrate aquifers of unlimited depth.  (Make sure to import at least 10 stones for mechanisms)
Toughen Dwarves by dropping stuff on them.  (Nothing too heavy though, and make sure to wear armor.)

That's the volume of a boulder in DF.
How'd you work that out?
Why did you work that out?
Try that. All I did was remove the new lines between the quotes, which the forum software automatically adds anyway.

i kind of figured that the boulder you get when mining gold was gold ore, which is surprisingly low in gold. at those volumes, it would give you about an ingot's worth.

It's "Native gold", not "gold ore"... hence "gold nugget" and such.  at least... that's how i saw it. haha whatever, either way, someone had too much time on their hands and now i have a sig.
