where are all the mountain homes?
« on: September 18, 2010, 01:03:47 pm »

in the new version, i'm seeing massive dwarf settlements on the Embark screen.  gigantic chunks of land that are blocked off and are not embarkable.  even areas not designated by an Ohm (mountain home symbol) frequently have huge areas designated as Dwarf cities and unembarkable.

When I go looking for them in Adventure mode, I find that there are often multiple sites on top of each other, on almost any dwarf civ cite.  But I cant find them anywhere.  I used to have no problem finding the old dwarf sites, and those were only 3x3.  on the embark map.  I cant find a trace of these things anywhere.

Anybody know whats going on?

edit: i cant seem to find human towns either.  the town markers often lead to a bridge, with no other buildings about.  there are lots of fields, but i have only found one farm house with some no-profession (not even pesant) humans and a random mechanic.  adventure mode seems less populated than it used to be.

The settlements are being re-written, and as .13 is only on the step on the way, towns and the like has been written out for the time being. They will come back as soon as Toady gets to it.
Also, the large, unembarkable areas are "sprawl claims", I think. Humans build farms on theirs. I think the other races having such large areas might be a bug, but it's too soon to tell what Toady intends to do with them yet.
