Amnesia: The Dark Descent

Seriously, fuck that game. I can't even play it's so goddamn scary, my heart pounds ALL the time I'm playing it, skips a beat, whatever. It's crazy, adrenaline inducing. Seriously, it's shit-your-pants scary. Look up LPs and listen to the reactions.

The Penumbra series, and most recently, Amnesia.

The interesting thing is that Amnesia is based on HP Lovecraft's "The Outsiders". Those guys really love Lovecraft, their engine is even called "HPL".

Puts into perspective how pants shittingly terrifying Lovecraftian horror is, considering it was written in the 1920s or so.

Honestly I don't think Lovecraft's stories are all that scary.  I know that's a little ridiculous considering my name, but it's true.  What I like about Lovecraft is how disturbingly well it meshes with the real world.  I'm constantly noticing things that parallel Lovecraft, it's creepy.

When I was a child I frequently had a type of anxiety when I was alone in bed. I would have a terrible feeling that some sort of presence was in the room with me. The fear was paralysing and I was afraid that if I turned around to make sure there was nothing there, it would strike.

So I'm going for the one with the game mechanic where looking at a monster will make it notice and attack you.
