Is there any way I can get a pre-genned world?
« on: September 18, 2010, 03:28:24 am »

So, I got 31.13 and I wanna try it out, 'cuz I heard it runs faster and stuff. However, when I try to create a new world, it always freezes at some point during history generation. I'm not sure if there's something wrong with the game or if it's a problem on my end, but I don't want to wait for the next version to find out. Would it be possible to skip the world-gen by downloading a save with an already genned world? Is so, where can I find something like that?

Lemme fix something up for you.  Do you prefer an island or region?

Island please.
Uploading, will probably be 10-15 minutes.
:edit: faster than I thought it would be, enjoy.

Just so you know, you could try grabbing a slightly earlier version (31.xx) and genning the world from that.

I'm sure there used to be pre-generated worlds available for download on the main site. Did they get taken down?

And on a semi-related note, is it alright to tinker with an individual world's raws after worldgen but before your first embark?

Never used Dwarf Therapist, mods or tilesets in all the years I've been playing.
I think Toady's confusing interface better simulates the experience of a bunch of disorganised drunken dwarves running a fort.

I was going to link him to one of those, but they either don't exist, or toady hid them rather well.

I'm fairly sure they went the way of the dodo about the time the site shifted around for the 0.28.* to 0.31.* shift, though I could be wrong.  Probably need 0.31.* to really settle out all the major bugs people complain a lot about before they come back is my guess, which we seem well on the road toward.
