My expedition leader just created an artifact:

Nice huh? Except the dwarf was bloody POSSESSED. So I was lucky enough to get a mood, and to get it on a dwarf with moodable Weaponsmithing. I did get a rather nice weapon but the guy gained NO SKILL arrrrgggggg. Tempted to save scum and see if maybe he gets fey or something.

This was a tough one to fulfill too. He wanted "thread... cloth" but wasn't happy with my pig tail fiber cloths. That meant I had to breach the caverns and get some spider silks. Main problem here was he had claimed my only metalsmith forge and I had no armed dwarfs to safeguard the weavers. Also the first cavern layer had two FBs in it, one of which breathed fire. Down I dig and find the second cavern layer and it's COVERED in silk, the stocks screen says there's more than a thousand of it. Time is starting to run short and there are about a dozen crundles on the same screen as the only sane landing point for my stair stack. As luck would have it I quickly snatch up some silk and wall off the stairs without angering the crundles, so the day was saved! Still, bah to possessions.

You got an artifact steel battleaxe. I think that rather negates the crappiness of the possession.

i once had a high master in all metalcrafting areas go fey and horde a crapload of bismuth bronze, tin, lead and other miscellania. i was hoping for some sweet axe or hammer. i got a shoe. one shoe. for the left foot. with all my star sapphires and a crapload of gcs silk. smile.

My Hermit went emo and claimed a Mason's workshop.  I had all manner of gems, gold and silver bars, and various valuable bits and bobs that could have been used...

Is it just me, or have the average quality of artifacts decreased since 40d? I used to get much fancier artifacts and now I'm lucky if they're worth more than 10k dorfbucks.

It could have been worse - I've lost huge amounts of valuable gems and metal bars to moods that used bone as a base in my current fort.  At least your mood didn't result in a net loss of value.

I've gotten wood(or was it leather) sceptres and other useless crap from possessions before. I think I was more irritated by the fact I had to re-order all the rock stuff on repeat at the workshop.


On the other hand, I got two fey Bowyer moods(plus a High Master immigrant) once. Both were completely useless(a bow and a blowgun), but the Legendary skills made numerous masterwork crossbow for numerous weapon traps. Even with bone bolts(although I think the majority were iron), not much made it past the first line, let alone the second.
