No wagon?
« on: September 17, 2010, 05:11:13 pm »

Crap!  I forgot to bring an axe!

No worries, I'll just deconstruct the wagon and make a training axe.

Er.

Wait.  No wagon?

How the hell did you guys get here then?

If you embark on extremely mountainous terrain the wagon is sometimes not able to spawn and all your stuff ends up strewn about in the approximate center of the map.

And if you brought an pick, cave in a tree.
The tree will turn into a log.

Don't make a cave on onto the tree.
Make the tile underneath the tree cave in.
I have done this before.

Ah, good to know. I just floored over the caldera and built some magma workshops, then made a couple of copper axes.

It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

I think that trick worked in 40d, but I'm not sure.

I think that trick worked in 40d, but I'm not sure.

Nope, not in 40d, maybe an older version than that, as 40d is where I started playing.  I found out about the disappearing trees fairly early when I collapsed a fairly large hill to level out an embark thinking I would be able to just go pick up the logs, but all I got was the rocks tossed about and some soil sitting on a rock layer below.  When that happened I did a little searching on the forums and found some cases where people had run into this and references to it being the case and tested it for myself to be sure.

When the first mention of collapsed trees appeared in this thread the first thing I did was went and tested it, because I havent checked in a really long time, however my experiment turned out like all my previous experience and the rest is further up in this thread...

The copper axes worked great, except now they DROPPED them when I drafted the two woodcutters and tried to thumb-wrestle a giant cave swallow. *&%$%

I'm pretty sure you were supposed to designate their uniform to have an axe in it.  Something like that.
