I guess I am really lucky, if I am deeply absorbed in dorfing it up, my wife will even bring my dinner to me at the computer so I can dorf it up undisturbed.  What a lovely lady  8)

Where do i get one of those girls?

I don't know, she found me... In fact she stalked me for about 2 years in highschool before I finally gave in  :o

This is a very entertaining thread so I think I'll just give it a slight bump to see who else will give us a post.  Lotsa chuckles.

My wife doesn't understand my love of the game, but we're both programmers so she at least understands the enjoyment of the complexity.

She enjoys puzzle games so my current project is make a puzzle using mechanisms in DF for her to solve. Since I'm only an occasional player this might be tough.  :o

My wife rolls her eyes at Dwarf Fortress, but she is also a gamer, so she understands that what I enjoy isn't necessarily going to be what she enjoys.  We both enjoy team fortress and various RTS's.  Her favorite is Age of Empires, because she can build an army of elephants to knock over my castles with (but I'm British!  Longbows for the win!)

Hmm...  sound suspiciously like dwarf fortress...

LOL my wife calls it Dork Fortress....

My son calls it that...  Like he has room to talk with his obsession with ancient computer systems and games (his favorite game of all time is Adventure which he plays on some atari emulator, now THAT is dorky ;P)

You've been raising him well!

I got in trouble once because I went to go check on my dorfs when I was supposed to be washing the dishes...

She threatened to throw my dinner in the trash.

Oh well, THAT could happen to all people who play WoW or any other online game. ^^

Ha, adventure is even worse than DF when it comes to geekyness. Even I can't play Adventure/Hack/Nethack/Yendors Tower.

BF laughs at me when I'm playing with my dwarves, and I laugh at him when he plays with his zombies. Left 4 Dead, Plants vs Zombies, Killing Floor, Resident Evil... He spazzed out completely when he found out about the zombie expansion for Borderlands. I think if they combined his other great love of Kingdom Hearts... Well, that'd be pretty awesome actually, but anyway.

My TF2-loving wife did try to play DF once - it lasted about 10 minutes before she spazzed out at the complexity and demanded I 'finish the fort' for her.  We do talk about the things that happen in mine though.  She doesn't mind me playing the game in the slightest, she just can't wrap her head around it herself.

In her defence, she's only really been a heavy gamer since I introduced her to CS:S a few years back.  The whole roguelike thing was before her time. :P

Did you, in fact, finish the fort for her?

I honestly don't recall, but I suspect it may be distinctly submerged at this point.

Give me Zork and any day for the old classics...  with some Hack, Moria, Angband, ADOM, DoomRL, and CastleveniaRL on the RL side... then just throw in some classic Seirra and Lucas games :D

Heh, my wife is a recently retired bleeding edge (Server first) WoW raider. :> So she only gives me shit about the fact DF is all ascii.

(Of course, I can't blame her, since I used to be her raid leader before I stopped playing WoW 3-4 months ago).
