Once a beautiful tree... (elf caravan issue)
« on: November 02, 2007, 11:08:00 am »

"Once a beautiful tree..."  as if they're sad and insulted.

Meanwhile, there's over 4000$ worth of wooden armor, weapons, cages, and crafts in their caravan.  How dare they have this double standard!

I know this has been posted elsewhere, but I couldn't remember if it was in here.  If elves are offended by woodcrafting, they can't bring that stuff to trade to me.  It means either a) they are responsible for the woodcrafting, or b) they acquired the items through trade previously, both violations of this anti-woodcrafting code they seem to so fiercely uphold.

Bastards, but I'm guessing this is a bug.

I believe they enchant the tree to grow the items from branch buds. Then when the items are complete they fall off the tree and it remains living.

See: most modern fantasy which includes elves. The second book of the 'Eragon' series explains this method in quite some detail.

Elves are only morally opposed to OTHER races cutting down trees. Duh.

Sorry i'm digging up an old topic, but i figured it was better than starting a topic anew about the same issue. Google found the thread for me.

I've got this problem right now, but the thing is i'm not trying to give the elves any wooden items. I'm trying to trade them Shell Crafts. They seem to think they are wood.

"Mame: Once a beautiful tree, and now? It is a rude bauble, fit only for your kind."

I don't have a lot of wood, so i wouldn't dare make wooden crafts. Is this worthy of a bug report? I'm in 31.20

It might be a bug if you're not trying to sell them bins of crafts (they won't buy wooden containers.) Could you tell us what kind of shell? (Mussel, turtle, cave lobster)

This board is defunct.

File a bug report on it http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/mantisbt/
(if it wasn't the wooden bins they were talking about)

Elves aren't hippies, they are businessmen. They don't let you chop trees, they don't let you sell wood and do everything to make you depend on their wood, not yours or anyone's else. They try to make a worldwide monopoly, and we have to stop them. With magma.

They will get offended even if you try to sell the things you bought off another elven caravan.

What's with all of these necro's? I mean, I don't really care, but the last few topics I've looked through are all from 2007 or 2009.

Sorry to post here...but I canNOT figure out how to post a new message thread. Obviously, the forum is designed by the same folks that did the DF interface.

Anyway, the game crashes every time there's a combat. I've got it saved right before the most recent combat, with a minotaur. I can reload (and I have a backup saved)...and crash. Every time.

I'm using the most recent version of DF, using Ironhand's graphics mod.

And if I can get some clues, or maybe a wiki page on where the heck the 'new thread' button is, that would be cool, too. :)

That big block of text at the top that says bug reports are no longer posted in this forum, is serious. As are the posts in this thread saying that this forum is defunct. As am I.

*sigh* but since I had the same issue...

It's a truetype font bug. You'll have to change your font or disable truetype support in the init.
