Sadly it's getting pretty common these days for Asian-imported MMO's to use Pando Media Booster as the main way to distribute their clients. It's basically just a peer-to-peer network that's supposed to help everyone achieve decent download speeds without overloading the publisher's own servers, except once your download is finished and you've installed the game, Pando is still running in the background, hidden, leeching your bandwidth, like an invisible bittorrent client.

Oh wait, that's what you were talking about? Their installer? I just used the direct link right below that, and put it in my crappy, but free and presumably malware-free, download manager.

Well, what's the use of a P2P network if everyone stops sharing once they've downloaded the thing?

Pando gives no indication at install-time that it even IS a p2p network, let alone the fact that it continues running hidden even after you close it down. The only reason I even knew I had to go uninstall something this time was because I've encountered this POS before. Most people probably have no idea why their network suddenly became crippled overnight. All they know is, everything started getting laggy, and now they have a rogue process called "pmb.exe" showing up in taskmanager.

Imagine you're unlucky enough to have a bandwidth cap. Personally, I don't. But if I suddenly discovered this crap hiding on my PC and costing me extra money, I'd be incredibly pissed off. I'm not paying for some company to distribute its software using MY bandwidth.

There's a difference between a completely P2P file and a game distribution one. In this case, they maintain seedboxes and ease up on the bandwidth (and in turn speed it up for everyone) by letting whoever's downloading to share their otherwise unused up bandwidth. Even if you shared like 10%, that's 10% less band they need to give out, that's already good.

So hiding and seeding in the background even after you closed it up is reeeally hideous if you ask me. I'm glad I noticed it and uninstalled it right away.

Ok I'm going back on west again if anyone wants me.

IGN: Cecilia.

also, you have to patch it.
EDIT:
So this is the second time it's happened. I click start game, and click on west. I get to the main screen, and then the game goes into Maintenance once I click start.  :-\
I thought this maintenance was this morning since Nexon made another typo saying 3:30 PM to 4:30 AM.(I didn't see the PM)

Dunno what's that hotspot shield but going through proxy should work.

That's exactly what it is.
