Exactly what the title says.

These things used to be holes in the ground and now it appears they might not be. It seems my Dwarves have really freaking branched out somehow, though I can't seem to actually figure out where the entrace to their places are. Any help would be appreciated. thank you.

The sprawl is caused by dwarven "farms", which don't actually change the landscape, as far as I can tell.
Can't help you find the entrance though, sorry.

If the issue is the same as with cities, mountain halls do not exist.

Because cities no longer exist.

So, 31.13 has an uplink with the forums, and if the guy who currently plays it writes something psychotic, it transfers to a random dwarf. In your case, a miner.

so does this mean there isn't anything to do in adventure mode right now?  Cause this is my first time playing the game and it would suck if i had to wait for an update for what feels to me like the most interesting part.

Personally, I don't play a new DF  version if it doesn't have  a new update/feature/fix for Adventure Mode

I suspect the reasoning behind our dwarves being sadistic is that somebody transferred it to them.
