On the topic of illusions, it is probably best to avoid any direct interaction against immune types, and to take a lot of ranks in bluff. Set up copies of the tank to soak up hits, set up a fake bard to soak up some more without interacting, make a wall that people can get concealment behind, and throw in the scythe-wielding half-orc twins when the party is trying to intimidate someone... Illusion will always be a weak school, but it tries to make up for that with versatility...
