To be honest, if anybody actually pulls a Maelrigar I'm running for my life. I don't know what I did to this character, but a level three sorcerer should not be able to stab a CR6 Giant Spider to death in three rounds, even with a wizard and cleric also dealing damage. It was a close fight, but...
.
This is not a good day. Finni lies dead, and I had to carry Nael and Van back up to the surface. Let me explain. We showed up in this nice desert city named Cliffmoor, and we found a place to get a ship that could somehow sail across the sand as if it were one of the Oceans that Procan has told me of. Thing is, though, we have to pay to use it. For whatever reason (my companions won't tell me) we had to pay in shiny gems. Shiny gems are seemingly only found in one part of the mines behind the city, and that part is full of 'scary monsters' that drove out the miners. I figured, "Hey, maybe I can be the good guy for once!", and agreed to go with the rest of the group into the mineshaft and clear it out. I don't want to take rocks from the miners, but I suppose our mission is important too. Maybe I'll leave something to replace those gems. Anyway, the infested shafts were pretty boring at first, but we opened the second door in the first shaft and battle was joined. Within half a minute, the cavern floor was choked all up in a red carpet, a veritable sea of giant insect corpses. Luckily they went down easily, but their poisons were harsh.
For whatever reason, we scattered after the battle. I think we just wanted to find the gems and get out, but our over-eagerness was our doom. Van and Finny went north, Nael and I ((Hrm... Nael and Mael...)) went west, and Corina and Mysteller stayed in the main cavern. I found a nice emerald, but almost immediately afterward heard a piercing shout from the northeast. I ran as fast as I could, but by the time we got there, Finny was dead and Van was all wrapped up in a spiderweb. There was a massive spider preparing to eat Van up, but luckily we distracted it just in time. Now, I hate spiders. They're just weird. I don't scream and run away like those sissy human arachnophobes do. I ran right up and plunked my sword into its face until it died. Its fangs hurt like hell, but Mysteller is a cleric of the best sort, and for that I am thankful. We dug out Van, and now some of us are looking for any other gems while I try and bring this pile of motionless bodies to the surface. Finny is dead, Van is unconscious and lacks blood, and Nael... Nael was being kind of silly. He tried extracting some poison from the spider, but ended up being poisoned to the point where he couldn't carry his own weight. Teaches you to not take everything you see, eh? Corina, of course, completely ignored the message though, stealing Finny's spellbook right off of her still-warm corpse. Sometimes I wonder why I haven't killed her yet, as most orcs would have by now. She has no manners, she doesn't respect the dead, and she's pretty snooty, to tell the truth. I must go for now, journal. Hopefully the next entry will not be a deathly one.
