The re-entries in both Halo 3 and Reach are, let's face it, completely unrealistic, magicool gel layer or not. The important factor is how long it took for the Spartan to decelerate completely- locking your armour would actually make it take *less* time, which is a bad thing. If Master Chief/Noble Six had landed in about a kilometer of marshmallow, they *might* have survived, but as is, they should just be so much cyborg jelly.

The Spartan II ( i think ) have this thing injected into them they become like super power and their bones are unbreakable, massive growth in muscles, faster reaction times etc. But your a spartan III so your more badass than the spartans II.
I'm one hundred percent sure that what you said is just from the game itself.
Nah I read the halo pedia thing. They kidnapped 75 6 to 7 year old children and trained them. When they were 14 they did the biological augmentation which only 33 survived, 30 died and 14 was severely crippled.

I realised how late my last post was so ignore that.

Anyway, you read the wrong thing. That was for spartan II's, and funding originally started out for 300, then got cut twice so they could only augment 75.

The spartan III's were not as good as spartan II's, they were meant to be cheaper to train and produce, and their abilitys suffered as a result.

The III's were equally good in terms of ability,  it was just they had a different, much cheaper version of armor to wear, which is why they were cheaper to train and produce.  That and they didn't have to replace them with flash-clones since they were orphans.

Bah. All of today's Daily Challenges are bullshit (read: all mulitplayer, apart from the lowest credit one).

Managed to do the achievement for doing the first bit of the 9th mission and having the Scorpion tank survive, but we gave up trying to complete the rest of the level. Turrents are fucking evil. I also discovered that if you ram it into the wall at the right place, you can get a Warthog into places in Oni Sword Base where you really shouldn't. Ramming Hunters with it does unfortunately not work that well.

yeah, that 9th mission with the tank was bullshit where you had like 2 fuel rod turrets and three revs or something...

In fact, much of the campaign was bullshit for legendary, I remember having to start Sword Base over and over again because the elites at the beginning kept fucking owning me.  I may know the story of the games and the universe of Halo really well but I'm not that good at the games.

Well it's been a good 5 months or so since I've been on the halopedia so I'm bound to forget some information. And the part where i said Spartan III were better than spartan II was a joke because we played as a spartan III so were better. 8)

Cybernetic and biological enhancements or not, a re-entry without sufficient deceleration time will jelly anything remotely flesh and blood. Since Six apparently *did* have a jetpack, his chances for survival go up from 'serious shock counselling for anything that finds your remains' to 'maybe survive with an extremely long recovery time'.

But we'll take it as a fictional given that if there's a pack that says "re-entry pack" on it, then it's been successfully designed and tested to that end. It just wouldn't be any kind of quick. And there's really no way Master Chief should have survived his fall in Halo 3, while we're on it- his gray matter would be slushed inside of his skull.  ::)

Anyway as for hitting the ground, titanium bones wouldn't make much difference unless it's just a matter of shoddy landing skills at the same sort of speed of a normal parachutist hits the ground at.

Six was badly hurt after landing. He could barely walk at first, and for the rest of the level you actually have a diminished health bar.

I was about to mention that.  Even "ceramic carbide ossification" doesn't do shit for you when you fall from low planetary orbit, re-entry pack or not.

And I bet that pack was designed specifically for SPARTANs... who else would be able to utilize one?

As for Master Chief, I think Bungie tried to explain that away by first, he didn't come from space, he jumped from 2 km up when they chucked him out of the Dreadnought.  And he was surfing a door.

And in First Strike, the SPARTAN team did jump from fairly high up when their Pelican got blasted... though they had to "overpressurize" their hydrostatic gel systems and even then there were 4 KIA, 6 wounded, lots of minor injuries/armor damage, etc etc.


Is it sad that I know all these things off the top of my head?

I'm pretty sure nearly all the popularity comes from it being one of the very few games on modern consoles that you can play cooperativly or competitively in system link/split screen. I get the impression that it's popular for many of the same reasons Goldeneye for the N64 was so popular... So many people have spent countless hours playing with a group of friends.

From past experience with Halo 3, more fun when with friends.  Borefest otherwise.

Hell, I've not touched the campaign except in co-op with friends, even then I just rushed ahead and not paid attention to the story, probably irking them more then anything....  >.>
Nor have I touched multiplayer without them.

Firefight isn't that interesting, even with friends, in my opinion.  Too easy and annoying?  Even on the harder difficulties.  (I never paid attention to what difficulty my friends picked.)

And what better way to play the 'duo' PUB matches then to deny victory to your other friends?


Fun Fact: Shooting 'civilians' in campaign mode gets you killed. 
Area of effect damage, so if you are near buddies, they die too...

Lame.

It has... ALIENS!!!

It one of the only few games that has a great multiplayer system and everything is pretty balanced. Also it has a huge story line and back story and stuff. They have books, toys, comic, there own little cartoon series and its been around for a decade and with out halo xbox wouldn't have gotten far from the start.

Bullshit, plenty of the weapons are unbalanced, plenty of the vehicles are worth shit, plenty of the armor abilities are worthless.
Second, when riled up, the community can be very annoying. Very, annoying.
Lastly, meleeing is spammed repeatedly. Which gets annoying when you have a few good weapons or you're on a streak.

And the brutes are bullet sponges.
The grunts are smaller sponges.
Jackal shields are annoying.
Skirmishers are fine.
Elites without explosives are fine.
Revenants are horror.

And I am sure there are other games Xbox is known for.
