I'm quite suprised Godwin's Law isn't on that list.

That's because Godwin's Law is a combination of several of the fallacies of that list; especially Guilt by Association.

First step in creating a good debate:

Find a different forum to do it on.

I was poking fun.

Fair enough.  I thought you might be, but was wondering if there was some magical place on the internet where people had learned good rhetoric and the "reply" buttons were gold-plated.

Alright, by the whims of Random.Org, the discussion of the week is:

"Is the Internet detrimental to Humanity?"

P.S. First post updated with relevant details.

Your argument is flawed in that i do not understand your argument.

Protip: you might want to preface that link/argument with the biggest damned NSFW ever.

But yeah, I can definitely see where you're coming from with 4chan; for anyone who doesn't know, they're an image board known for being lewd asshats. By the same token, however, 4chan has on gotten people organized and galvanized to tackle social issues through nonviolent protest. This is rare, but it's happened. They also do share recipes, artwork, music, and popularize phenomena on the internet, including the rather familiar MSPaintAdventures.

...not to mention, we couldn't be having a discussion on the merits of the Internet without the connectivity it's providing us with right now. We would most likely never have met, spoken, or been able to share and compare ideas. Surely those aren't detrimental.

Some people may dislike the idea of 'If I need to know it, the internet will tell me', but I find that it's a pretty good safety net. If people use the internet properly (IE: Adding to it sometimes) then it becomes a self-sustaining method and profitable for all involved.

The internet spreads science, learning, day-to-day communication (important or not) and humanity. The only detrimental things on the internet were put there by humans who weren't using it for those purposes. Only humanity is on the internet, it only allows humanity to communicate with itself.

My thesis: Humanity is detrimental to the internet.
