The difference between sodium and table salt is that table salt doesn't explode when mixed with water.

As a hint: if it says "Sodium" on a packet, it's basically a trick to avoid putting the proper salt content on (sodium being a part of salt, so the number looks lower).

I'm really not sure what this is supposed to mean. "Sodium" is listed in nutrition facts because that is what is nutritionally important; it's not a "trick". If anything, only counting sodium chloride would make most products seem healthier, since it wouldn't count nitrates/nitrites/glutamates/any other damn ionic compound of sodium used in food that you could think of. Sodium from those compounds matters too, and the chloride ions in salt matter relatively little.

The packet says "sodium" where it's actually measuring dietary sodium. It says "salt" where it's mentioning salt. There is no trickery or false advertising. Obviously a salt packet will still say it's salt, and not "sodium", and obviously the nutrition facts will give the amount of sodium, not "salt".
