*SPOILERS* HFS weak?
« on: September 13, 2010, 07:24:34 am »

So I dug down to find magma and also found adamantite. I've never really found much adamantite and wasn't sure just how HFS works. Naturally I broke the spire and lo and behold, screams and eerie caverns.

My military was comprised of 7 legendary fighter/swordsdwarves, 1 legendary lasher and 1 legendary speardwarf. Lasher and Speardwarf were armed with silver, the swordsdwarves a mix of copper and iron (no time to forge any weapons due to me having no fuel until magma).

About 15 assorted demons make it up through the spire and completely obliterate my forges, then move on to face my military, which I stationed in a storage room one floor up. Then the demons proceed to get hilariously slaughtered by my COPPER armed swordsdwarves. Only one injured with a fatal wound (red) to a leg. Nothing more. 15 dead demons.

Do they get progressively more badass or was I just lucky? Because this certainly felt a bit...weak.

You only got 15?

Individually most of them aren't that strong, but there's usually 50+ whenever I break it open.

HFS are randomly generated.  Like forgotten beasts, they can be easy or impossibly difficult depending on what random features and abilities they have.

One time I broke open HFS and my military slaughtered them with no injuries.  The next fort, the air was filled with boiling dwarf blood and everybody suffocated. So yeah, you can get lucky and have wimpy HFS, or end up with instakilling demons.

Well, there are most likely more evil beings in the depths below, but those 15 were the only ones "smart" enough to find the hole in the spire and actually attack. I had to leave for work, but I guess the next time I play I'll get more. Some of them had some form of breath weapon, so some of my dwarves might be suffering from interesting syndromes... will check when I get back home.

I figured from their descriptions that they were randomly generated :D

EDIT: "Hole" doesn't spell with a "w"...

I have always breeched hell under a human civ, so they and maybe the responsible miner die, but not my dwarves.  :P It also gives an idea as to what the demons have for weaponry without having to view the status screen.

The last time I broke into hell, I got indestructible demons composed of salt and fire.  It really depends on luck...

Not a troll, not some basement-dwelling neckbeard, but indeed a hateful, rude little person. On the internet.
I'm actually quite nice IRL, but you people have to pay the price for that.

Now stop being distracted by the rudeness, quit your accusations of trollery, and start arguing like real men!

They're not indestructible anymore.

Explain.
BCs are still invulnerable, why not Demons?

Bronze Colossi are literally solid bronze, they're designed to be that hard to kill. Beheading them is really the best option, like with most inorganics.
