I used to play this. Somehow I'd always end up as the equivalent of a mob kingpin, albeit one who was Sovereign; I'd order non-dynasty people to kill everyone I had a problem with and sabotage all the buildings I wanted so I could buy them cheaply. I seem to recall sticking family members in the position below Magistrate and then waiting for the Magistrate to die so there could be no legal repercussions for even the nonimmune family members and employees assigned to the daily murdering.

I don't think it's really possible to succeed in a totally legit manner; even when I started as a Scholar (which, by the way, is not all it would appear to be. Being able to make artifacts was never very useful) or other legit class I'd always drift back into mass murder and political corruption mode.

Alas, this be the sad truth about this game. They never really made it "big" enough for me.

I assume, Micro, that the child was either adopted or is a sibling, or a bug I guess. I have never seen immaculate conception myself. But, enjoy having an enemy of worth, it is rare.

It is possible to be successful by legit means, in fact after awhile it becomes more interesting to do so, becuase it is too easy to use violence

I believe you can get bastard children.

Biggest problem in this game is the kids are always never up to snuff and/or are already on their way out 'soon' by the time you get to the old and dying age....

Well I am dumb. I thought everyone with a yellow shield was their entire family....Seems I have even hired some of them to work for me. Possible exploit? Hire them then make their own family assassinate them?

Also I started a feast, couldn't figure out how to send out invitations, and now the feast is going on forever and I can't make my guys owners of houses anymore.

Also what is the guildhall for? I ordered plans for church bells and bought a wheat package but can't find them anywhere.

Feast thing sounds like a major bug, I have not had that one myself

Guild Halls offer missions

The plans/items should be in your personal inventory, if not try your house maybe? Not sure, my stuff is always in my inv, not sure what would happen if you had no room when you bought something

Does anyone know how Churches work exactly? I can't get them to work except to defame people (which to admit worked really well, that council member who hated me was quickly thrown out of office)

Also DANG I am having trouble hobnobbing with people... I can't get a non-negative no matter what... I guess I need to send gifts instead.

What about Churches exactly? If you don't own them you can buy items there. You can also attend a service, it will raise your relative peity if it is the same faith as you, Catholic or Prod, which in turn raises your like level with other people of the same faith. You can also adopt a child.

On hobnobbing: Its charisma based, so lo char= bad outcome. Gifts, bribes and items work well: give cake, use purfumes and that type of shit. Duels also work wonders, win or lose, if you don't cheat, raises like with the other duelist.

So I just got Guild 2 Gold on the cheap at half price books. What's my mod shopping list, as a first-timer?

If you hold a sermon everyone who attends will pay a donation. Not sure if that is the tithe or not but you get money. Look out for groups outside your church.

I enjoy spamming poems and hosts and selling them.

Also, I FINALLY WON!!!
Caught one of them walking between villages and had the other executed. (it's nice when your all at the top with enough money to bribe the entire city)

Actually I find that the Book you get is much better for money. Leather is extremely cheap and you can dish out parchment so fast and easily.

I believe the Tithe goes to maintaining the church and back to the church's organization, not to the guy who happens to own the building.

What!?! unbelievable... Well at least I still get money from using the church as a buisness.

None out really. Not sure what comes with the Gold version but, we have this one, the only major mod:

For those who have the Guild 2 and the Pirates addon, there is a pretty cool mod called Back to the Roots. It adds most of the features from the first game, The Guild 1400. http://forum.jowood.com/showthread.php?t=150061

A lot of these mod'd features are present in The Renaissance addon, such as the necromancy profession line.

Bleh, Renaissance isn't that good, it's like the original with more resources and a maze-like map. Just more micromanagement.
