I installed Guild 2 again and tried to play it

I am doing 1000 times better then the first time (though I had to play the boring not helpful enough tutorials) but I still don't understand how a lot of the game functions.

Here is a tip for running for a possition

Always do it last second (or close to last second) you won't believe the number of times I could have got into office simply by going into the possition no one went for.

Another tip: Give cakes to and bribe the hell out of anyone who will be voting for you.

A further tip: If you feel like it, kill people who are running against you.

A further tip: If you can get away with it, kill people who are running against you.
Fixed that.

Tip: If you can help it build inside towns or next to protected buildings. I happened to build both my Church and my Wizard's towers next to the Jailor and they are safe because they get attacked by the jailors. (at least for now...)

You don't even need to get away with it, just keep killing the judge.

I got am office as whichever one can command the guards and stationed them all around my rival's thieves den and robber baron forts. Hilarity ensues as the guards just keep respawning and I keep killing his workers.

Patron pro tip: build the fishing hut type buildings. The AI can handle these pretty well and there is always a demand for fried herring.

If I remember right from when I played it, just start with Patron. Easily the fastest source of high income, and can support other ventures into other roles quite easily.

For those who have the Guild 2 and the Pirates addon, there is a pretty cool mod called Back to the Roots. It adds most of the features from the first game, The Guild 1400. http://forum.jowood.com/showthread.php?t=150061

A lot of these mod'd features are present in The Renaissance addon, such as the necromancy profession line.

I tried playing this multiplayer, but oh gosh the bugs.

"Buy a title" things would come up randomly. If anyone clicked yes, it killed the multiplayer game.
Now this wouldn't be so bad if, say, everyone knew it was coming and just hit no.
The problem is that it'd pop up randomly and eventually SOMEONE would click in that area at the exact same time it popped up.
Game would die, of course.

If it wasn't for the singleplayer portion, I'd be upset about paying for the thing. :/

I don't like the idea of multiplayer on this game. The court process sounds like it would break everything.

It is pathetically easy to break everything if you had a PC opponent. Just build a force early and attack!

Been thinking about picking this up after jefmajor's LP of it. Should I just get guild 2 renaissance? Or is there a good reason to get some of the others?

I am not sure, but I think you'll get just about everything with the renaissance, maybe a few maps but no big deal. Somebody correct me if I am wrong
