I actually go yellow/black even on Kushan. But if I was to choose something else, it'd be white/blue.

Btw, Orb, have you played your namesake?

sure i can offer tactical nous. some basic pointers... firstly, play as kushan. thier unique units are far better than the taidanii, and thier capital sips have an easier time of training all thier guns on a target. thier corvettes also have better coverage.

if the game wants you to scout somewhere, put it off as long as possible.

stick to claw formation in evasive for all strike craft. ALWAYS. also, dont mix figher classes or your hyper fast scouts will chug along at the rate of a bomber.

use corvettes (or defenders if desperate) around vulnerable craft (salvagers, harvsters, ion frigs) in sphere formation.

there is no such thing as too many support frigates. capture them at all costs. set them to guard squads of capital ships and they repair automatically and provide useful refuel and repair spots for fighters.

infact, capture everything - yes, even the shitty tuscan ion frigates, they are good early firepower. captured units ignore the unit cap. retire useless ones like fuel pods for the RU's, and use the good ones. ion array frigs are possibly the best unit in the game once you learn how to use them. capture swarmers and advanced swarmers and you will have my respect - its pretty tough.

capturing can be made easier by swarming your target. scouts are good at this - they will distract your target, hardly damage it and hardly take hits while your salvagers do the work. cloak fighters rule at this late game. there is a mission where you can take over 200 ion frigates like this if patient, and then SPOILER HERE LOL!

if you do form a large bunch of capital ships, a missile destroyer is a must to take out fighters (set it to guard the bunch by dragging a g-box). use drone frigates until you get missile destroyers. you can capture these quite early.

use frigs/destroyers in groups of 3 in broad formation - use one for slugging head on, and flank with the other 2 to softer sided, underbelly and back.

load up all strike craft manually at the end of each mission with launch automatically disabled - stops them blundering out at the start of missions into danger.

use corvettes in wall formations. withering firepower against small targets. heavy corvettes have a devasating burst fire function (z-drag a target box) great against slow moving strike craft like bombers.

force fire ion frigates into gas clouds. makes a nasty suprise for strike craft flying through them...

.that is all for now. feel free to ask any specific questions when you feel you need to

Hmm, alright, I'll put those two colors up after Dropbox finishes downloading.

Also, have I played my namesake? I have no clue what you mean by that. Best guess I got is that your asking if I've played Homeworld before. I have, a lot.

Also, Monkey, a lot of those are good tips. I was actually only asking you to be a tactical officer. Just boss me around between updates and ect.

I wont be using some of those tips, since they feel too "gamey". Want this to be fun(and Fun), and it ruins some of the feel if we do workarounds. Docking manually is one of them. It ruins a few of the beginning situations in missions also. Another one would be using only Claw formation for strikecraft with evasive. Its the best way, but I like seeing less efficient formations do stuff.

Putting off scouting I actually do myself, but it ruins the Fun aspect, so I wont do it in most situations.

....The rest are awesome ideas though. Will keep them in the back of my mind.

"Edit" Oh, and one last thing. There are spoilers in most missions where something bad will completely cripple you if your not prepared. Lets not be prepared, k? We can always redo missions. Doing it this way might make my LP take years(lol)...but I think it helps keep the mood. So basically no spoilering whatsoever(ask me for info, or at least put the spoilers in ze SPOILER thingy), and if your making decisions, just think of what you would do if you didn't know that knowledge. You can be cautious though. If you disagree with this just pipe up.

I was referring to O.R.B., Offworld Resource Base, a Homeworld lookalike with less epic story but decent gameplay.

Ive seen it, but two things prevented me from getting it.

1. You had to buy it. While that usually means its better, my parents don't want to use their credit card on the internet  I don't have a credit card.

2. You had to download it. I have terrible interwebs. It wouldn't be worth the trouble to get a portable hard drive and go to the library or something.

But once those two roadblocks are cleared, I'll try it out.

Ok, I downloaded dropbox and installed it. But whenever I try to connect.....it downloads(and a little bit of upload), but nothing happens.

Also, if I don't get anymore people to sign up for the officer positions, I'll have to just do it myself. If we get at least another officer, I can do the rest. But having just one tactical officer is a little redundant.

Finely, here are the colors suggested(on image shack since I cant figure out how to use dropbox):

Heyy Homeworld! I remember playing this, I got to this level but the game had gotten too hard for me then. I suck at video games.

Alrighty, an idea struck me, and I was wondering if you guys would prefer this.

Now, I know you guys like having your own units in the game and watching them survive(based on other threads I've read). So I came up with this idea.

Each person will take ownership of a squad. I will have 10 squads(since I only have 10 hotkeys. XD). You may request a squad with a certain number of ships, request reinforcements, and ect.  You will order them around and such. So if you want to play lategame, you will say something like "1 heavy cruiser, 3 support frigates, 2 destroyers, and 1 missile ship" which would be a heavy anti capital ship squad. If you forget to order your squad I'll do it for you with the best of my judgment. I recommend specialized squads so you guys sort of work together. There may be a salvage squad, fighter squad, corvette squad, resourcing squad, and ect.

Since only a surge of votes would change the outcome of the vote, we are going to play as Kushan. I'm going to replace the vote with squads/officers. Please vote. I don't mind either one.

That squad idea works for me. I'd take a squad now, but I won't be online for most of tomorrow, so I'll sign up later.

...mmkay. For some reason mine can't connect to the server either. Weird. Anyway, what you do is install it, log in through it to your account, and then it should say "this computer is now linked to Dropbox" and you'll get some files downloaded into wherever you chose your dropbox to be. By default, it's in your "My Documents" folder. You get taken to that folder when you doubleclick the little tray icon, too. Once there, copy the images you need into the Public folder, and wait for them to upload (they'll be marked with little green checkmarks once they are). Even when they're not yet uploaded, right clicking them will allow you to select Dropbox->Copy Public Link from the context menu, which is a direct link to the file you're storing. The file will become available once it's fully there.

If you're having problems connecting (which you do if you installed it - by my referral status, you haven't completed the procedure), then I don't know what's up. Maybe some technical problem on their end?

edit: okay, now mine's connected. You should try it again.

Ah....problems.

I'm still at the same roadblock. Perhaps I had an incomplete download? I installed it again, so its not the installation.

The file is 12.8 mb, and version 0.7.110

Oh, and I definitely plan on starting later today. I'll probably go with the squad idea, since its an easy drop in -drop out kind of thing.

"Edit" Ok, I was reading the Digimon LP and came across Greenshot. That thing is awesome. :D

So if I can just get dropbox working, I will be set(meaning lots of pictures XD).

If your problem persists, you should inquire on their forums.

Make sure you don't have anything that blocks the app's net access, like an overprotective firewall.

What does the tray icon read when it's running?

I'm pretty sure its not my firewall. I could try adding it to exceptions later on.

The tray icons are the ones in the bottum right corner of the screen, correct? If so, it says its just connecting.

Asking on the forums seems a tad too much effort for what its worth. Plus I dont have much "tech fu", so it would take even longer. It might be just because my internet is too slow and it has an auto timeout thing.

Since I need to get this started, and the fact that nothing actually happens in the first mission, I'll do the mission by myself(with pictures  :o).

We are going with white-blue btw, since I liked that color the best(no one really voted, well technically 2 on black/yellow, but eh).

Im also spoilering it since I took a lot of pictures. Probably about 3mb.

Update 2 will likely be completed tomorrow, if I have enough free time.  Update 2 will consist of showing how the game works, so yet again a lot of pictures. After that it should only be like 10 pictures per update. I plan to show formations, tactics, profiles of our(current) units, the sensor screen, and a little bit of Mission 1 Action(which really isn't much....Scouts just pew pew drones).

I hope people are actually reading this. Using up like 2 hours of my weekend wasn't exactly the best use of my time.  :-\

Anyway, I'm just going to go with squads because its so much easier.

The first available squad we have are 5 scouts(as you can see in the last screenshot). These will be used for scouting pew pew and probably get blown up in the first three missions. Any takers?  ;)

"Edit" I edited the first post(or OP(?) as some people seem to refer it as, opening post?) to include the changes. I'm not really sure where I'll squeeze in our Kushan/color choices, but that should be obvious if they start reading this.
