Thanks. I figured it out a few minutes ago, actually. Nothing to special about the statues. Not sure how a statue of cows pays tribute to a miner, though...

He really liked cows?

I just hope he dies the same death that all dwarfs deserve: liver disease.

I'm not sure if I can check the likes and dislikes of a dead dwarf.

My dwarves often get attached ;) to certain topics.
Lots of engravings, crafts, and artifacts are embellished with pictures of merely a handful of themes like the legendary taming of the giant eagles, the foundation of the fortress, the journey of whoever to whereever, the fight against a titan, and various events with nobles of the fortress or even artifacts created.

The most hilarious depiction is on my favorite marble bracelet:
Quote
This is a well-crafted marble bracelet. It is encrusted with well-crafted dendritic agate. The object menaces with spikes of well-crafted pineapple opal.
On the item is a well-designed image of Vucar Tombleopard the dwarf and mussels in turquoise by Adil Kikrostatul.
Vucar Tombleopard is sourrounded by the mussels.
Vucar Tombleopard looks terrified.
:D

I've found that you can use [k] to view a statue that has not been 'built' yet, and [t] to view a statue that has been built (or is still in the mason's workshop).  I believe [q] gives the same info as [t] when a statue is involved.

Zepave Dawnhogs the Butterfly of Vales the Marsh Titan ... was taken out by a single novice axedwarf and his pet war kitten. Long Live Domas Etasastesh Adilloram, slayer of the snow butterfly!
Doesn't quite have the ring of heroics to it...
Mother: "...and after the evil snow butterfly was defeated, Domas and his kitten lived happily ever after!"
Kids: "Yaaaay!"

Seems like there should be some kind of limit on how long these things stay around, i genned a world for 1750 years and my dwarves were engraving crap that happened in 6.

I was like wtf? :/

Yeah, well, this is kinda realistic since real people are still engraving pictures of some dead Nazarene on a stick two thousand years later.

One of my dwarves is obsessed with a jaguar-taming human who lived in the 700s. Don't know why. I really think this is an RNG issue.

Others, and this happens on EVERY fort since I made them, is obsessed with Frosterases the Adamantine Trousers.

Next time I go into Adventure Mode I'm going to find those trousers...

So, most of Tholtig's fortress is dead now, thanks to the flooding which occurred due to the same incident that killed Tholtig.

Random Dwarf #1: By Armok, there's water on the floor!
Random Dwarf #2: Everybody kill each other!!!

So, ya. A few survived however, and I've tunnelled down to a fairly massive cavern, in which I am building a new home for the survivors because frankly, I don't want to spend hours cleaning up all the bodies, and vomits, and severed pieces of dwarf. I suppose I'll begin engraving again, and see if I can learn more about the Marsh Titan's history and/or fate. I hope that Engraver is still alive.

After having repelled another four or five sieges, with a good 300 goblins dead by the hands of my military dwarves, my engravers still insist on drawing pictures of some human taming giant eagles from the year 700.  And pants.  Apparently leather pants are one of the symbols of my fortress.

I need to let my engravers know the name of the fortress is not "Eaglepants."

In the year 1052, Urist McBarrelmaker was in the mood to make something truly legendary. The next 5 years were spent engraving barrels on my walls and floor. I can't tell if they are trying to congratulate or shame him.

my mayor got serious nerve damage at summer year one, two years later he's still in bed, and the fort is covered in pictures of his spine getting broken... XD

Gee, tough break for that guy  :D. How would you feel to be permanently resting in a room adorned with images of your own incapacitation?
Last fortress I had, the engravers would not shut up about a human who tamed the giant eagles too. Incidentally, can you 'tame' things in Adventurer Mode? These taming themes seem so popular I want to get an adventurer of mine to have images carved in his honour.

I actually had the bright idea of recording the 'history' of my fortress where every spring I designated an area to be engraved, big enough so at least some of the tiles would be about what had happened recently. The plan was to be able to read the history of the fortress in some rough kind of chronological order by walking around the hallways.
