It might seem that the easiest solution for the apparent "uselessness" of the Philosopher is to have him be the "judge" of a party's success. A dwarf that holds a party that the Philosopher enjoys gets a happy thought, a dwarf that holds a party that the Philosopher doesn't enjoy gets a sad thought. Instead of strange moods for the Philosopher, he falls into a "Dialectical Symposium", and the subject of whatever he discusses becomes a new meme, as engravers and artisans fall into a flurry to depict his recent brainstorm.
