Slowest computer
« on: September 09, 2010, 09:29:01 pm »

What is the slowest computer that you have played Dwarf Fortress on and how far did you make it?

I tried it on a 1.7ghz Celeron and I just about threw up. I played for about 50 minutes and then the lag came after my first immigration.

Probably this one I'm using now. On a 4X4 embark at the beginning I get about 50 FPS, I don't play forts long though.

My 1.6 ghz netbook.  It actually runs pretty good.  I think I get between 30 and 50 FPS on it.  You just have to adjust some worldgen parameters and keep the population low.

Did your car also run over your fps? I feel sorry for anyone trying to play on that comp lol.

My little ASUS 800MHz netbook runs 40d semi-okay (gets 33FPS or so on a fresh embark to a low-population site).  I dare not try 0.31.x on it, it would probably get sub-1FPS.

Sure do. I also type fast enough to acquire internets. My ink ribbon is running low though. If I use it all up, I won't be able to save before I go fight Nemesis!

imiknorris, you box should be getting way better than just "<1 fps". Right off that bat on a small embake my 2.2ghz W7 laptop (okay, it has 4 gigs of ram, but still) I can get 300+ fps right off the bat on a smallish embark, and it bottoms out at about 30-40 fps. even my older ubuntu box can get 50fps right off the bat running df under wine (i could never get it to run natively, I suck at linux :P)

The computer I routinely play DF on. Its my long suffering Toshiba lappy, 1.33GHz and 2 gig of ram, running windows vista. Usually I adjust worldgen parameters, and set an immigration limit of around 100 or so.. At embark, with everything turned on, usually runs at my max set fps of 150. Unless there's something like an ocean/lake/waterfall/volcano.. then it's slower. Usual embark size is 4x4. Eventually I turn off something, usually temperature, to drag back some fps. Though I've never played a fort long enough to complete a megaproject.
