Bunk Beds
« on: September 08, 2010, 07:51:35 pm »

Hmm... I have 3 dwarves resting in the same bed, at the same time.

This is a hospital zone, with 4 beds and 3 (so far) patients. The three of them are in the same bed at the moment. I don't know if this is normal, but it's certainly odd. My military had recently fought a Giant and one of the speardwarves received a bit of a mangling. I had never setup a hospital, mostly because any previous injuries had no real effect on the dwarves. But, I wanted this one saved, so I setup a single Hospital zone square over a bed (the bed they're all in now.)

However, on resume, I noted that the military commander had decided to drop his work to rest his 'old war wound' (he has a mangled big toe on his left foot.  ::) ) Not wanting to take him out of action for something so stupid, I removed the hospital zone. This didn't stop him and he went to rest in the bed anyways.

I decided I really wanted to try and save my speardwarf, and so gave in and recreated a hospital zone over the same bed and 3 more next to it. Two more patients arrive at the bed (no doubt originally triggered by the first hospital zoning) and get right into the same bed.

Nevermind that I have two dwarves with missing limbs permanently unconscious just a couple rows up in the designated sleeping barracks (which technically the hospital zone is also under.) Now a carpenter is coming to diagnose the 3-stack and still no one has rescued my speardwarf. Is it normal for them to stack themselves like this?

EDIT: The speardwarf walked himself into the hospital with his mangled right upper leg and is resting in the bed next to the 3-stack of whinny elves dwarves currently being diagnosed by the very rusty carpenter and our chief medical dwarf.

Maybe your fort has a bad case of biggotry? (check the relationships just in case.)
Also, be careful as that rusty carpenter might give your patients tetanus :P

Beds are weird in 2010. You dwarves don't really seem to care about who owns what, and I bet they'd care even less about who's sleeping in them. I've never seen this happen before, but it seems plausible.

This sounds like the start of something highly inappropriate.

I've had wounded dwarves sharing beds before, there simply wasn't enough beds in the hospital zone. In fact, I think there was only one bed in the hospital zone...

I had three dwarves and a dog share a bed with a highly infected injured dwarf. And yes, they all caught his infection and subsequent 'rot'.

Same thing here.  Is the bed in the far upper-left corner of the zone?  I think that's my issue, and if the damn thing was ever free of dwerrow I'd move it.

I've had it happen when there was a dozen free beds in the hospital. And it was indeed the top right most bed.

Looks like we've encountered another healthcare bug to report.

I have had many dwarfs sleeping in the same bed quite a few times it's likely to happen if you are a bit short on beds.
