Create an infection that doesn't bother with a total conversion and instead simply broadcasts the victim's knowledge back to Jethro.

I approve of this Idea. Do it.

A map would still be greatly appreciated, knowing where people are generally is nice, but not all that helpful.
Knowing what the victim knows would be even better then a normal spy, since they don't act suspicious and doesn't even know they are a spy (make it spread like normal though, so that we could infect a entire civilization), also add the option of having it be able to take them over if it needed.

Begin preparing a devastatingly infectious, yet not lethal disease for each species we come in contact with, along with cures for each disease.  Be prepared to release it on their populations.  Offer to help develop a cure in tandem with the species should we release their disease on them.  Stretch out the development time to a year or two, while simultaneously upgrading the disease to be more infectious and more crippling.  This will give us the opportunity to get our agents all over their society, while also earning their trust as we save them from horrifying disease just before the utter destruction of their society.  We can use this trust to infect everyone in the empire with Jethro with minimal resistance.

Make sure the disease only works on one species.  We don't want the situation moving out of our control, nor do we want every species cured at once.  This will likely only work on one empire, as any others will grow suspicious of us if everyone we meet gets the plague, then suddenly vanishes.

So my crundles are staying intact unless they're newly spawned... until they are exposed to anything that isn't at room temperature.  This mostly seems to mean blood, specifically, their own.  Then they go poof very quickly.

What does a plague have that we can't do with our spores? Our spores are about as invisible as a virus, can spread as quickly, and have the added bonus of giving us control or information, depending on the spore's purpose.

The spores have our identity, constructs can be anonymous...

Plus, this method lets us have an ally for as long as we need one.  We are still new around here, and having a powerful ally to back us up will really help speed things along.  We can actually take over once we are well established, and they have no further use.

Which empire should we use this tactic on?  The Empire sounds like a powerful ally to have, but they might be advanced enough to somehow trace the virus back to us, and they may find a cure for it rather quickly on their own.  They also are made up of many species, making it harder to create something that would actually devastate them.  On top of all that, they wouldn't have any cool tech to give us, since we specialize in the same thing.

Regarding the encyclopedias: They don't want a hard copy, they want you to broadcast the information to them.

@Fliff: We cover entire planets now. Think along the lines of the zerg creep, except with more green and various squishy bits.

@lemon10: I do have a map, just that hexographer doesn't want to export it as a .png, for everyone to see.

Regarding infectous spores: Our spores are passively infecting everyone. That means that most of their cells have our spores in them, ready to activate given the correct signal/time etc. Additionally, they are also transmitting their host's knowledge to us as well. And of course, we can take control of the hosts as well.

Expand in a direction that is not the direction of the Empire.

BLOBS to the east, NOT-BLOBS to the south. Unknown aliens to the north and west.

Sell Encyclopedia Galactica, containing all information that would not reveal our true nature or anything inimical about us, to the BLOBS. Give them a complimentary hardcopy containing the spores along with the broadcast.

Unknown aliens can't be occupying all the systems to the west.
Plus, we are terraforming gods. Just settle on the worlds they cannot.

That is amazingly creepy.

One living biomass...Covering everything...

Thanks for the nightmares.

Anyway, what would happen if the notblobs took a closer look at the planet and saw that the planet was covered in a weird greeny thing that is certainly not grass? They would get suspicious. Worrying.
