All problems have a solution. Even if that solution is to cheat (IE, have plot intervene). This one, however, only needs to have some logical thought and long-distance experimentation. Besides, we can always send off a colony ship that runs like a solar sail that also has some sort of cloak-like effect like chameleon skin, radio silence, no reflectivity, complete control over external temp, etc...

You blast the sphere with random radio transmissions, but nothing really happens. Launching WOLFTOPI at the sphere does nothing either, they simply get crushed to death when they enter the sphere.

Since Jethro's mind probe moves on a track, you decide that leading the sphere to its parent is not the brightest idea. You sever the track behind you, and try to escape.

The sphere begins bud some more spheres, but you lose it in the swirling clouds of JOSHUA. After fleeing for a while, it becomes obvious that it isn't going after you.

It's a sphere. You have very little idea of how it is powered, or how it moves. It absorbs most forms of radiation, except for some of the ones with larger wavelengths, like radio. Except for the fact that it appears to crush things on contact, not much else to say.
