Seeing as the only troubles we'll encounter are on land, let's fast-forward, shall we?

While we will be fast-forwarding, I would like it if we picked another way to communicate with the other infected, to work with smell/touch.

Electric communication. Once we get on land, we can evolve it into radio signals.

Ultrasonic Sound signals. We can use the same system to make subsonic SONAR.

But it has a much shorter range than radio.

Light is useless during the day, when there is fog, when there is anything between you and your drone... Radio is the way to go to be able to control a huge swarm of drones over kilometers and kilometers.

I was kidding; light is incredibly pointless unless we have a link (fiber-optics); sound cannot penetrate other things well (Sound-proof walls); touch weve tried (Distance challenged); Smell takes time to go places, and might not go where you want (The Wind); Taste, well that is the same as smell; Electric waves might work, but resistances of objects would require immensive energy to maintain contact; We need brain-waves, or something.....

We could just plant a piece of Jethro into the brains of what he/she infects. Jethro would send orders to that piece of the body, and the message would be relayed to the infected. We don't control a large tribe of infected, so that would serve its purpose for now. We'd have to change it later, I understand, but we have very few options at the moment since we're a FUNGUS.

We already do that. The problem is how to communicate between the pieces.

Shure, whatever, let our predators develop lead-based skin so as to prevent the communication of their prey...

and/or receptors of our speeches so as to evesdrop and get outta da way...

After several centuries or so of evolving, you have developed radio-communication! However, you have failed to develop lungs, limiting yourself to the oceans.

Then, one fateful, one of your scouts hears a splash, and some creatures falls nearby it. With glee, you realize that it has lungs. After figuring out how they were made, it is finally time to explore the world above.

First things first, though. What shall your first above-water scout look like? (With your evolved skills, it can look like anything, and have the special parts of any sea creature you can thing of.)
