Since it's closing its mouth ech time a guard come near, having a guard close to us would at least mean we'll stay safe.

Stick a tentacle down its throat?
This, but more!

Slither halfway down its throat, and dig in with our tentacles!

(For our next evolution, we should either get armored skin or poison skin.)

Spew poison into the surrounding waters and hope it either flees or becomes ours.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

Of course! You spew poison into the waters, infecting it when it breathes it in.

You now have an armoured fish, along with the five other fish that were infected by the hunters. The hunters bring back 29 units of food as well.

Hive:
Hive-mind: 1 (You)
Infected fishes: 21 (One armoured)

Materials:
Food: 16 (Food needed: 15)

Spoiler: DNA Library (click to show/hide)

Since it's closing its mouth ech time a guard come near, having a guard close to us would at least mean we'll stay safe.

Bonus points to Sheb for figuring this out.

WARNING:

Armour plating will slow down your fishes. Considerably.

Continue? (Y/N)

Try to integrate Armor plating into our stationary stage.

Send all the fish hunting for NEW kinds of creatures, to expand our library. Eat the useless ones and keep the powerful ones as infected. Send 4 fishes out to found new hives.

No, only the Overmind. Then we need to make it huge. Like whale-huge.

Smaller guards can do with only offensive weapons. (Or maybe we should do castes?)

You'll have no way to communicate with the hives, except by runners.
