He isn't on. But answer the question. How would a "proboscis" as Aramcom put it, retain it's shape in our current amorphous form?

It would fire harpoons and suck stuff up. Just put some duck tape on it to keep it in position. (That's what it's actually called originally; not duct tape. The army invented it and called it duck tape for its water resistant properties. Just to avoid a long discussion.)

Same way that our flagella do.

(I'm getting the turn up.)

I'm against the harpoon idea while we're still a single cell. It will offer little to no benefit when we become multicellular, unlike whatever other things we could do here that would strengthen us at a cellular level.

With great reluctance, you investigate the thing in the corner.

Oh. It's just a rock. But not just any unimportant rock. This rock is highly porus. In fact, you there's a tunnel large enough for you to go inside it.

Go in a little bit and wait for stuff to swim by, attack it when it does, keeping perfectly still when we're waiting.

MORE DNA!!!

The more DNA we have the more complex we can become.

After DNA Improve the cyto-skeleton.

Grow harpoon proboscis thingy!
Dude. IT WON'T BE USEFUL LATER! Actually think about how useful things will become later on, and how effective it would be. We're better off doing what techno said, or splitting our mitochondria for faster processing of energy. Then, when we go multicell, we have a stomach in one end, and a brain in the other. The simple fact is, if we went multicelled with a proboscis, we would more than likely stab ourselves.

It's plenty useful to a multicell. The animals I got the idea from are multicell and use it to great effect.

What animals are they? It doesn't seem useful. So a veto for harpoons.
