Yes, but they are not perfectly flat. relatively thin compared to other galaxies, however, they still have some thickness. and Spirals are only one type of galaxy. from the shape, I would say that the map is of a cluster in this case, thus meaning that it would actually have quite a lot of up and down.

You are in a spiral galaxy. The map is less then 1000 light years across, and could easily fit into a spiral galaxy.
