I don't really care about the names and think we should stop discussing them soon.

So, Y.

Y on the right tunnel, but also think about tech tree, guys :P we should have multithreading available on our Biocomputer...

Also be on the lookout for early forms of rabbits  :o

Why would we need a tech tree when we have no tech?

We need it so we can make laser-mounted flying !!sharks!! and later have some efficient spacetravel... nothing against biotech, but when there's a vacuum around it, it's not too efficient. And who wouldn't want to build some cybernetic mutated killerantbirddeers or something?  :)

Actually, if you just have a hard, waterproof shell and some really good insulation there is nothing technically making a living creature worse of in space than a machine of similar properties. Remember that we have genes for photosynthesis and already control entire closed ecosystems, the main problem will be propulsion, and the extreme precision on some things required for space flight.
Mind you, a lot of stuff, like joints and sensory organs, would have to be almost completely reinvented, but the designs are not really that much strictly harder, just different.

For the right tunnel: Grow a large creature that is basically a huge intestine, and have it undulate water into it. Send a drone to check how fast the water level is rising. If it does not rise fast enough, grow some more creatures.
Post some Scuttler advanced around the entrance to the tunnel so the intesto-worms don't get ambushed.

As for the space-travel, we should have a HUGE, closed turtle filled with a whole ecosystem.

Filled? it should be on top of four elefants, which are then again on TOP of a giant turtle... (Terry Pratchett is great :) )

Okay, I accept your points, but still... Do you guys want to attack other peoples' spaceships with stuff like "Take this stream of pressurized water right against your thick metallic shield!" ? On the other hand, we could still put a bit of work into our radiocommunication... Light is an electromagnetic wave as well, and we already have lenses, mirrors, biolumin(..stuff ???) which could work as a biological diode...
Anyway, we should still build ourselfs some munchkin shield (aka not only biotech) :)
