Hell yeah we're doing another one, I think the Goblins were broken anyhow, they didn't appear to be to interested in snatching our many children, which sucks because I was ready for them to come so I could smoosh them.

ANYHOW, because I fail, and you guys are awesome, I'm going to let you choose where we are going to put the next fort.  Terrifying (gulp) to Serene (snoresville), from glacier to desert.  Anything you guys want, and I'll do my best to try and find a fort in a location like that.  Also if you want to change anything about your dwarf, now is a great time to get it done, and also I'm lowering myself to one character.

Same deal as before.

Though one special request. There's only one workshop allowed to make Statues, and that workshop is restricted to everyone but Elizar ;) His story is that he defaces any statues that are not made by him.

Too bad you lost the other fort, but it's alright with me.

I'll take a male axedwarf named Haakon this time.

He strives to be the best.

any suggestions for where you want the fort located?  and I perfer not to use anymore mods than I'm currently using, no offense of course, but if it turns out the goblins are broken I'll see if I can't introduce something exciting.

mmmmm marshes/swamps.  I love marshes and swamps, they make me happy.  Of course it's usually hard to find a good marsh/swamp without an aquifer there to ruin your life, but I'll see what I can do.

I vote half tundra/glacier and half forest. That way, you can get through the aquifer (through the glacier ice) and have surface level trees, but an aquifer in the forest part could help w/ emergency drinking water. Anyway, a marsh or whatever would be fine.

I don't know how long it takes for Dwarves to freeze to death (I have never noticed it happen), but you could start a successful fort in freezing climate.

OK, I can't please everyone, and I had to regen Zaludthur just to get this to work, but I've found a NEARLY perfect embark site (too many aquifers for my tastes but I'm sure you'll feed on my tears)  It is a mixture of a Calm Temperate Shrubland in a Freezing environ (how is it temperate in freezing.... some questions will never be answered).  The other half (actually closer to 2/3)  Is a sinister tundra.

Me:  Oh Armok help me!
Undead Polar Bear:  Armok can't help you now!

Anywho, can we all agree that as this is connected to Human, Elves, Goblins, and of course Dwarves, and with the dwarven capital being the farthest away that this is truly evil, and thus a challenge and worthy for embark, waiting for two opinions before I embark.

edit:  forgot to mention, no flux stones either so it's either going to be costly trading for steel or rushing for big blue metally death stone.

Y'all waited to long, thus that will be our embark, and here is character portraits, yey!  Also I'm going in real heavy with skills this time around and crafting most things at the site, not to mention I'm probably going to have to cavern rush in order to get farms up.  So we're going down fast, hopefully it'll be interesting for you since I'm new to the whole rushing down thing.

Fort name: In the Dwarven tongue, Udirzas Onor, a.k.a. Blackcrystal of Despair

Group Name:  Nimemetom, The Lonely Sacrifice

I've also cooked up a short story for the entire group for how we got picked for such a lousy assignment.

Gee stood before the throne of the King.  A great ball of worry growing in her stomach.  There were six others also waiting.  The king was not known in for his mercy in the cases of criminals, which Gee could only assume everyone was considering it was the day for trials.  Gee looked at the pool of blood on the floor and hoped against hope that somehow she would be spared

The Hammerer walked into the room and hit the shaft of his hammer against the marble floor three times, the signal for all in the room to stand.  Oddly there were seven in the room, more than usual showing that times were indeed desperate for so many to have turned to crime.  The King entered the room and sat on his throne.  He looked to be in a better mood than usual, which was a bad sign as he was only happy when he was brutally torturing people by popular rumor which he made no effort to suppress.

The Assistant to the King who was standing beside the throne unrolled a scroll and began reading from it.  "Today, on the thirteenth of Moonstone, the following have been accused,  Mithfon Uzokeskal, Murder of her husband, Tuxman Rikkirmebzuth, violation of privacy, Haakon Rakustvudthar, Blackmailing army officials, Gee Rakustfash, Grift directed against the nobility, Monigan Fikukzuglar, Witchcraft and cursing the dwarves of our community, Ron Asmelluslem, theft from the Royal Armory, Elizar Erithurvad, Defacing Art of the King.  Today, our Great King will sit in judgment of those accused of crimes.  All sit!"

All of us sat down as quickly as we could.  The King spoke in a loud booming voice "All of you by rights should be sentenced to death, jail, or perhaps both, and burial in the public graveyard with not even a coffin to your name.  However, it will not be said that your King has no mercy.  Instead, you will be sent to found a colony where you will work for the glory of our kingdom.  Should you be successful, you all shall be absolved of any crimes both present and future, should you fail, know that you will die a more gruesome death than any I could hand down to you, with no one to mourn you.  The caravan waits outside the gate.  NOW GO!" said the king leaving the room and going back to whatever hole he had crawled up from.

I shouldn't complain too much, I did live to see at least one more day, which is more than I could hope for should I have been given to the Hammerer.  As we set out, I looked around, at least the group around us seemed healthy enough for a group of criminals, we might actually have a shot at this.  As we headed towards the cold North, I looked back at the Mountain Home and knew then, I would never see this place again.

Elizar Erithurvad, or Elizar Throatseals. He had gotten that name from his parents as he hadn't cried when born, and it had been not breathing. It had taken some effort by his mother to get him breathing and alive. But he had never spoken anything at all. Never did he open his mouth for other than drinking or eating, or breathing if his nose was stuffed for one reason or another. His method of communication was restricted to hand gestures and chiseling away on walls.

Not so long ago he and his friend were walking on one of the higher points of a structure in making. Elizar had been working for a while on it, and had hoped to see it to completion. But when his friend came, someone else was removing the scaffolding he was on. Elizar had seen it, but arrived too late. He saw that his friend had broken his leg, though it did not look odd for the usual dwarf. But he couldn't communicate what was wrong. So he led the foreman to the nearest wall and chiseled away the words, painfully slow.

But the wall he had chiseled on was one of the king's work. "Great Gray Slab of Smooth Stone". It appeared as usual gray smooth stone. After seeing to that his friend got the help he needed, he was whisked away for art defacement of the king's work. Unable to speak in his defense, he was now climbing aboard a wagon. It had ample supplies, enough to last the winter and a bit more. Which was good, since the projected time of arrival was in the beginning of spring.

Hopelessly mute with complete strangers who had made offense one way or another, Elizar curled up, just wondering where that colony was.

ROYAL STATEMENT OF THE KING!!!

Ron Asmelluslem has been found guilty of theft from the royal armory.

As a member of our glorious mountainhomes, this is the greatest shame a soldier can have. Your caring King understands that many of our military came from the lesser districts, but that is NO EXCUSE for stealing, nor is having nothing to eat an excuse.

Stealing will be punishable by death from one of my less skilled hammerers.

The king slid back in his highly decorated gold chair and reached over and picked up Rons profile that his assistant had put together before the meeting.
The king looked worried at how one of his senior military and personal friends had tried to steal from the royal armory, then he saw it, past the section with Rons deceased family.

Ron was born from the "lesser" paid section of the city, where the criminals and jail was stationed. This meant that Ron was mixed up with a mix of killers and lesser known criminals. When Ron was about 23 he decided to take the skills he has learnt and try and join the military, unfortunally he failed the entry test twice, on the third try he just managed to join.

3 years into joining his squad, he started to fall for his to-be wife Kulet zustash who was the only other swordsdwarf. 7 months later he proposed and had 2 children.

This, as with most military marriages couldn't last, firstly a goblin seige took kulets life. In which the king took pity and helped him overcome his greif. As Ron did with the king and the kings wife.

TWO WEEKS AGO...

This made some old friends of Ron angry and one of them, idek okab (who was a small time drug addict) decided to make Ron remember who he really was, sneaked into Rons chamber and took everything of value, including the lifes to Rons two children.

As ron had everthing he knew stripped away, he decided to steal a weapon and kill everything that he knew from his life in the lower districts. thats when he got caught by the kings personal armorsmiths.

two weeks later...

Ron was sitting next to six other people on a wagon, he didnt know or want to know, all he knew was that he wanted to leave that place. and if that meant co-operating with stangers that could potentially hurt him, he would have to. As the wagon pulled away from the mountainhomes all he could think about is his wife and children. Then his thoughts turned to all the drug dealers and killers coming to his cell to laugh at him, this filled him with rage, and he hoped it would subside before he got to his destination.

Haakon was born to a peasant family in an outpost at the edge of a glacier. Toughness was needed to cope with the environment and the weak perished. He and his father go on hunting expeditions when the summer months came (The only time his homeland wasn't covered in snow). His father, a skilled Axedwarf in the kings army, would teach young Haakon how to handle an axe and hoped he would follow in his fathers footsteps. His mother was a metal smith and taught him her trade.

One time, on a hunting trip with his father, they stumbled onto a battlefield (Conflicts between Dwarven civilizations had been raging for decades) where they were mistaken for the enemy scouts. Haakon ran while his father was cut down by cold dwarven steel, the steel of his very own countrymen.

His father's death left the adolescent Haakon in a state of absolute fury and hatred for the King. He vowed he would one day end the kings tyranny and bring peace and freedom to the land.
