Sinking the map

So, I read on the wiki that anything dropped into the magma sea is destroyed. So, I thought, what if I sink the entire map into the magma sea? Is that even possible?

So I decided to try it FOR SCIENCE! It will take a long time, and will be pretty complicated due to the magma sea not being a straight out sea, but a complicated cavern-like system with lots of semi-molten rock in the middle. If it isn't possible to sink everything, I will sink most I can.

What do you think?

Great idea!

explore it, find the little pipes in the magma sea, and then kind of cut around them? So you'll be left with GIANT PILLARS STICKING OUT OF THE MAGMA.

If I may blow my own trumpet, then I did some collapsing the world into lava in my main fort Boardstrap:

The main problem is that the rock must fall upon 'semimolten rock' to disappear, so you probably end with sections of compressed rock as well.
However, collapses and lava is Fun, so go ahead.  :D

I tried collapsing a goblin tower from the bottom.
Needless to say, my game froze.
