Orks in 40k are interesting because they're the most powerful psykers, as a race.

Orks be dum, but I dun tink dey be dat dum.

I've never read the 40k ork codecies, so maybe it's covered there. I assume they use weird boyz as an ork version of a lodestone in the warp, or something.
I believe they wouldn't much care where they ended up, so long as there were things to kill on the other end...

IIRC, Orks don't produce signatures in the Warp the way humans do. I.e. Daemons tend to ignore Orks in the warp, so the only thing they have to worry about is going off course.
That implies they have a course to begin with, and aren't just randomly wandering around looking for shit to kill...

That's the best course.

I played Warhamer Fantasy RPG before an of the miniatures games came out. ONce Fatasy was out, my friends and I started building armies but the reality hit us. To play a decent game of fantasy battle you had to field hordes of miniatures which was too expensive for us.

Then 40k came out and all there was was space marines and orcs so we bought those. A few more races came out. The advantage of 40k at the time was it was cheap. all you needed was a  rulebook and a handful of cheap miniatures. I guess that not true anymore.

I dont play any of it these days, no time. I prefer computer games because i dont have to get a bunch of friends together to game. What I miss the most was scenery building. Maybe I will just build a train set, same thing. (a steampunk train set)

I know nothing about the game itself, but I do very much like the look of the minis from Infinity and am tempted to grab a stack just to paint up. Seems to be class-based skirmish in a cyberpunk setting - more streamlined aesthetic than the clunkyness of 40K.

I've actually enjoyed the terrain building most of all so far - creating and painting elaborate clay structures is pretty damn fun.

Also, I did play and enjoy mage knights for a while. Obviously a lot more individual focused as a game, and had some wonky rules, but I liked a good bit of the lore they came out with, and most of the supplementary material was gorgeous, and a lot of the pieces looked pretty cool, even if the models themselves were generally low quality.

Also, that Infinity game has some really beautiful miniatures. Probably the best I've seen so far. The creatures in the "combined army" gallery, some of them are just gorgeous.

Edit: Not really a fan of the boobly armor or the rods on the robots. The roddy bits at least could be justified as some sort of high tech cooling device, but I don't get them functionally or aesthetically, really.

Games workshop have been rereleasing their games since the 1980s and theyve gone through a number of lore and aesthetic revisions since then. Some sides such as the rines have changed little over the decades, others quite a bit.

Necrons are a relativly young side, i remember them being first introduced in the late 1990s. They had little to no back story then, and thats sort of what made them interesting. I havnt played any gw game for about 6 years or so so i dont realy know how theyve developed.

rarrrrr we are scary

ive seen the more modern models and theyve got flying pryamids n stuff now i think

The tyranids have alawys been based on the aliens architype, just like th zurg in starcraft (and the aliens in 60% of sciencefiction). However aesthetically they look much more like the aliens from Fox (R) films now than they used to imo.

Orks also used to be quite different although theyve improved orks aesthtics alot over time imo

couldnt find an actual ork, but if uve seen any of their post 2000 vehicals u get the idea

in my view both in 40k and regular wh gamesworkshop ran out of decent ideas for lore about a decade ago

ive still got quite a few models im trying to get rid off. Any UK bay12s pm me ur postal and ill send u models for free. If ur abroad ul have to find away of paying the postal costs.
