Why is it worse?

Walker at least was a mercenary and he was annexing countries back when annexing countries was still a thing that regularly happened. In the Wonga Coup, our dude was just an old fart whose only credit was to abuse Mummy's status to corrupt his own government and then try annex a country with mercs in 2004.

Small note, that was just Guinea, not New Guinea. Papua is New Guinea for a reason.

Also, Papua New Guinea is closely aligned with Australia, so we wouldn't stand back and let that happen. We'd lose credibility in the region if the Australian military didn't come and help the Papuans.

EDIT: two other important facts. Equitorial Guinea has 1,221,490 people, its biggest city holds 883,000 and its second biggest city holds 297,000 people. This is what made Equitorial Guinea an attractive target: easy to control.

However, Papua New Guinea is completely different. The top two cities only account for about 5% of the total population, and it has a densely populated mountainous interior where they've been practicing a highland-specific type of agriculture for 1000s of years. Invading New Guinea would be akin to the Vietnam War.
