You have a sample:

And you try to find the mean. You add it up:
3,021
Then you divide by four, retrieving the mean, or the average:
755.25
Only one person is below average in this example, making only one person below average, or 1/4.

What I think you don't quite understand is that "normal" is not the mathematical mean of a set of numbers, but the mode in a standard distribution.  In our social sciences, we tend to believe that humans fit this bell curve.  Furthermore, we'd throw out outliers like 10, because they skew the distribution and, if they are to be studied, merit a study by cases.

Normal has a very specific definition.

But, in any case, this is more statistics than it is mainstream mathematics, so I'll have to say "good try" at the least.
