For those people wondering about the perspective, it's actually a base defense mission, with the last alien being hidden in a closet.

EDIT: By the way, we still need people to vote on where the next base should be. We have three and a half million, enough for another base already.

Can you put it somewhere that covers both Asia and America, such as maybe Hawaii?

I'd go with either Hawaii or China. Either place should allow you to cover large areas.

Hawaii isn't actually that good a place to build a base. While it does cover both China and the US, it only covers a small portion of the coastline, and most UFOs shot down will most likely crash land into the ocean.

I'll edit the poll up there in a while to poll base locations.

Go for Southern China.

Also, if that was a defense mission, who attacked? The alien in the cells?

Anyway, nice to see I saved the day.

This is kinda hard to explain, so let me start at the beginning.

On another completely unrelated save, I have a Sectoid Battleship coming in to wipe out my base. I created a backup copy of the LP save, transplanted XBASES.DAT and manually copied the Battleship into the new save, changing the destination as needed. I also changed the Battleship into a Medium Scout, and when the attack happened, I changed three of the four crew into X-COM control. The last one I disarmed and blocked into a closet, before walking the other three to the containment unit and setting up the scene. Then, I changed that guard to Psi Strength 0, disarmed him, changed the last Sectoid into a Leader with Psi Strength and Skill 100, before clicking end turn. That's how I got the "guard is under alien control" screen, and after that, I armed him and shot the other two guards. I moved the X-COM sectoid out of the cell, giving the impression that it was alien (if you look carefully, there's no flashing red box that signifies alien unit spotted). Then, I proceeded to change the sectoid into alien control, allowing Johannes to stun it (no friendly stun allowed with the Stun Rod). Johannes stunned it, Kramer moved over, and I killed the closet leader, ending the mission.

tl;dr : gratuitous savefile hacking

So, we got a Sectoid leader under our command now, right? Great! I want him interrogated now!

Also, I'm almost sure the answer is no, but I'm asking anyway, is it possible for my character to take up research work for a while?

BTW, it is totally possible to run out of ammo for the laser tank.  It has 255 shots. Or whatever a full 8-bit number is.

SWATKATS!!!

Screw it, I'll make a guy. Squad 2 leader maybe?

Name: Crandal
Prefered weapon: Rifles, sniper type soldier
Personality: Completely emotionless, emotions have no place in his squad. And he'll shoot any who try and run from the alien threat himself if he sees it.

I know that but it's such a large amount of ammo that you'd have to

a) really suck
or
b) try and shoot everything in sight

empty the entire thing.
