Marble in the magma sea. . . WAIT, WHAT?!
« on: September 05, 2010, 08:53:22 pm »

So, I was carving fortifications for my magma forge and smelter, when all of a sudden, I discover the magma sea. Y'know, just obsidian and magma. Well, apparently marble somehow got into a layer at the magma sea. Marble isn't even magma proof!

Well, seeing as Marble IS metamorphic, it could somehow survive the magma.

It would make no sense for obsidian to occur near the magma sea. Obsidian is an igneous extrusive rock, which occurs where magma flows out onto the surface and cools rapidly. You should expect to see igneous intrusive and metamorphic rocks down there.

I don't think digging one tile out of the wall of a magma pipe should cause you to find the magma sea.

It wasn't a magma pipe.
It was a volcano.

Well, I dug pretty low.
I had a brook to tap from, and I didn't feel like digging a bigass mine shaft.

If I dig out one tile on the highest level of a volcano, which is on the top of a mountain, It discovers the magma sea for me.

I have an area of Microcline in my magma sea.  I know that stuff's not magma-safe.

I imagine since non-magma safe objects won't melt unless submerged in magma, these rock outcroppings won't either since they're technically not submerged either.  In a practical sense, wtf, but in a gameplay sense it's plausible.

Do you always look at it in ASCII?

You get used to it, I don't even see the ASCII.  All I see is blacksmith, miner, goblin.
