It is needed in the hospital to immobilise a dwarf for treatment.

Specifically, it's needed for dwarves that get overlapping fractures - most broken bones can be treated (using a cast or splint) without needing traction.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

lLike tables, Do they need to be next to beds ? Or is it more likely that my docs are too inexperienced, (60). it's been cleaned and diagnosed.

I've never gotten a "Urist McBoneguy cancels Traction: Patient not resting" error, but i'd build them next to beds just out of principle.

Like a row of beds with a space inbetween, traction benches between and tables out at the ends of each bed

Most of my Traction requests come from broken hands and fingers

I have gotten the "Cancels Traction: Patient not resting" error, so it's definitely possible under certain conditions.

However, I've gone several forts (dedicated to building a military, no less) without even needing the bench at all. Only in my latest fort did an injury warrant my very first construction of one.

I just use this layout to be on the safe side:

Code: [Select]
BTBTB
R+R+R
BTBTB
(B = bed, T = table, R = Traction Bench, + = Floor (could be bed too))
